I know you are not dumb but I know you would actually take the test.

Otto's IQ beats all on here, right?

quote:While ACT and SAT correlate with IQ measures and load on G, it would be possible to predict one's IQ with those tests; however, a major confounder is that SAT and ACT score distributions are derived from individuals who are disproportionately represented by college-bound students while IQ distribution are derived from the population as a whole. In addition, we don't know whether the factors to take either the ACT or SAT impacts the representativeness either.
Your IQ should be around 115
National Center for Education Statistics ACT Averages and Standard Deviations
It appears that mean and standard deviations of the ACT are roughly 21 (20.98) and 4.9 (4.87) respectively. So with an ACT score of 29, that yields a z-score of ~ 1.65 which is equivalent to a standard score (scores used in IQ tests) of about 125.
Assuming a 0.7 correlation with IQ, we can regress the 125 to yield a predicted IQ score would be about 118 with a standard error of the estimate of about 10.7. However, since the ACT distribution is likely skewed higher than the normal population because of the college-bound selection bias, then the predicted score would then be even higher, with the extent dependent on the extent of the skew.

quote:Like not destroying your brain? IQ stabilizes roughly around age 8, and since intelligence in conceptualized and an enduring traits, tests are designed to reflect that. So you can't really do much to change your intelligence other than things that can negatively impact cognitive functioning (head injuries, substance abuse).
i have not done a very good job of doing the things necessary to maintain IQ since approximately middle school
Now something like critical thinking can be improved, but thats because you can change the aspects of it that are not a function of intelligence.

quote:Spelling is a poor indicator of intelligence anyways, especially since it's a skill (important distinction) that is less necessary and reinforced because of things like spell check and autocorrect (which actually causes more problems for me).
BTW: one of the most brilliant minds I know can't spell worth a crap...
In addition the cognitive abilities that contribute one's natural spelling acumen (e.g., auditory processing) are not the strongest loading abilities of intelligence (e.g., fluid reasoning).

quote:Unfortunately I think you may need to see an optometrist because you must have had saw the non-existent 1 in front of the 8. On the bright side, that vision problem looks severe enough that it probably negatively impacted your score and your true ability is higher. Or maybe you're actually an Otto alter trying to hide yourself by lowering it from a 188.
I've been tested at 181

I was accepted into the Triple Nine Society. Never joined, but this was the early 80s and if I remember correctly they wanted money, screw that.
Thought it might be some kind of scam. I just thought Triple Nine Society sounded cool. Once they accepted me, I was good.

quote:I know that's why I said you may be an OTTO alter, and that there was a 1 missing in front of the 81. It was a poor attempt at a joke in response because I felt bad saying you had an 81 since that's assuredly not true.

The US Army once told me I had an IQ of 139. I put zero stock into IQ myself. I went to Princeton with plenty of egg heads who were dumber than shite.

So with your 146, and excluding the obviously facetious response of 180+ or below 70, that's 10 scores reported (161, 161, 146, 145, 141, 131, 130, 129, 126, 125) with an average score of 139.5.
Apparently, even assuming self-reporting bias skewed towards self-selection, and that the board's general intelligence skewed higher than population average, either people are lying, mistaken, their scores are from when they were extremely young when more extreme scores are more likely, OR this board could be a recruiting source for MENSA.
In reality, there is only one person who I can pretty confidently say is lying about his/get score because with knowledge of score limits typically imposed on most IQ tests and multiple statistical phenomena that are extremely likely in isolation, let alone combined, then that person would have known that he/she reported something that has about a 1 in 10 million chance of happening.

I in noway believe the average IQ of Poli board posters is 139.5 lol.

just fwiw, my test was done by a psychologist in 1st grade to test me into Gifted. so i was about 6 or so
my mom hid the score from me for a LONG time, too. she wouldn't even let me get ahead in school when i had the opportunity

Apparently when I'm called an idiot on here, it's true in comparison to the genius level intellect of the board as a whole.
