I don't think the government should be in the business of telling manufacturers or people what kind of lighbulbs to produce or buy. We have too much damn government already!

Ok cool. I’m not buying and installing $60 light switches when I can still get cheap, long lasting, low wattage incandescents that’ll do everything I want with the switches I already have. At least not in main living areas. Closets, pantry, outdoor flood etc... I’ll use LEDs all day.

Gotta discuss the juicy stuff outside.

You're correct that Hvac takes up the biggest amount of the electric bill but numbers show its around 49% not 60-70%.

Now throw in your other appliances; water heater, range, laundry, etc. Light is a small percentage of the average power bill.

Let the market decide which is better. I think most will eschew the incandescent bulbs because they generate lots of infrared in the form of heat.

I've done this in my house and just the lack of heat is worth it alone.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I've switched to LEDs everywhere except for the 45-watt pointy bulbs that go in our chandeliers. (The LED version looks like crap)

My earlier post was only meant to counter the narrative that they are less expensive in the long run because they supposedly last 20 years. They aren't and they don't.

This is what the LED sellers say but isn't true. None of my LEDs have lasted any longer than regular bulbs and given that they cost a ton more than incandescents, the overall cost is significantly higher.

If your LEDs haven't last longer, you're doing something wrong. It's just a fact. It isn't sneaky marketing.

Except it's not a fact. LED bulbs can fail easily, many more parts involved in their manufacture and that many more points of potential failure. I've replaced lots of LED bulbs and fixtures, some barely lasted 6 months. LED flood lights are some of the worst.

BUT rewarding landlords who build new apt buildings and hotels that go led. well I’m all for it as it’s gonna save everyone money in the long run.

Why would you need to "reward" them if it saved money in the long run? The saved money would be the reward and landlords would choose that option, if it were true.

The lightbulb aisle is absolutely the most bewildering confusing place to me on planet earth. I have literally no idea what I’m doing in there.

I feel the same way as I imagine you Baws
would feel if you had to select an eyeshadow palate for your wife in Sephora with no assistance or direction from her or the sales lady in there. It was just somehow an emergency that you select the correct one.

The return of the incandescent is the equivalent of another eyeshadow option to me.

I've never had to replace an LED bulb. Superior in every possible way.

Wrong. It's not a "fact". It's in *theory* that they could supposedly possibly last that long. In practice - they do not. I've not had one LED bulb last 10 years. Most have failed in a year or two.

How is everyone claiming the bulbs fail "wrong"? How are they "doing it wrong"? Is there a correct way to screw in an LED bulb or flip a light switch?

Somehow all the liberals claim to have never had an LED burn out, when everyone else has.

This tells me that liberals will lie to promote an agenda, no matter what. $10 bulb burns out in a year? Can't admit that. That would undermine the leftist cause!

incandescents have a useful place in americas market place. there is no equal when used in barbi ovens for children, heaters for hamsters, and chicken coops.

The only people pushing this were the companies that make the bulbs.

There are a lot of people who hate LEDs...especially the elderly who say it hurts their eyes.

People should have choices.

Plus LEDs are triple the price. Sure, they last longer but if you're 85 years old, you don't need a fricking lightbulb that lasts 10 years.
