My father was a democrat early on. I’ve been a hardcore conservative as long as I can remember. I was beyond pissed off at Jimmy Carter every single time I saw the Embassy hostages paraded around on TV and I wasn’t even 10 years old. BTW, I’m still pissed off about that.

I can remember being a kid and my Dad saying “where did you come from”, in relation to my beliefs.

He finally came around.

There supposedly is an old saying that there is one decade which shapes a person politically

My decade was the Clinton years

Seeing this corrupt scumbag who couldn't open his mouth without lying was bad enough. But what really opened my eyes was seeing how tMSM covered up and even carried water for him,

I was conservative minded before I even knew anything about politics. Was 18 in 2015 and I remember a lot of people had pretty much already chalked up a Clinton vs Bush election before the primaries even got started.

Started paying attention then and realized I really didn’t like or trust or like either one of them (hence my username—18 year old me thought that was funny)

And then Trump came along and I was 100% on board.

Now I’ve realized I really don’t like any of them

Ditto on Reagan at about 26-liked Ford , too, but voted for Carter his first run. Last vote for a Democrat . Sure wish Bob Dole could have won in his bid for the presidency.

When I was in my teen years, I kept noticing how Democrat voices were so soft on crime, and always making excuses (blaming society, environment, racism, etc.) for criminals and criminal behavior, instead of onto the individual perpetrators. They seemed so bound and determined to re-direct issues of crime so as to lead to a broader attack on traditions, institutions, American society, etc., That was offensive enough, but mainly it just rankled my sensibilities to see so much sympathy for criminal scumbags who did horrible things against people.

There was never a particular age when I settled on a political belief system. My views are constantly being tested, refined, and adjusted as I learn new things or encounter evidence that challenges what I previously believed.

If I had to identify one major influence, it would be my dad. He was fiercely opposed to political parties in general and frequently lectured me about their dangers, predicting that partisan loyalty would eventually destroy the country.

Because of him I am anti-party to my core.

He may not have been right, but watching American politics devolve into what amounts to glorified team sports over the last 30 years, I'd say he certainly hasn't been proven wrong yet.

And as I grew older and more well-read it was satisfying to learn he had some great company in those beliefs:

"There is nothing I dread so much, as a division of the Republic into two great parties" John Adams

"If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." Thomas Jefferson

"the public good is disregarded in the conflicts of rival parties" James Madison

"It [political parties] agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another" George Washington

My indoctrination began at an early age at home and in Holy Mother Church.
As i matured and become wise in the ways of the world, my beliefs solidified.

Raised by a republican dad and democrat mom. Around 25 years ago realized that that voting for character instead of falling into football team party politics will always be the case for me. The character of a person will be the deciding factor.

I was always a Democrat since my family was for the most part.

My dad probably leaned a little left, we didn't talk politics much but our family values were to respect God, work hard, be accountable, and have integrity.

My first Presidential vote was for Reagan in 1984. He espoused those truths so I cast my vote for him at 18.

Respect to your father. A dem from the 70/80's would be considered far right now.

Was pretty center-right until I started listening to Rush Limbaugh in the early 90s. His show and some personal life experiences made me realize how utterly insane the Left were and that they (and the Dems) were only going to get worse.

What made your political beliefs

Democratic - Republican Party of my ancestors (they opposed the Federalist)

what was your age?

Diapers maybe, I do not have memories of my infant years but family has always been politically active for both parties in my lifetime. In our household, it was a big deal to be the first member of the family at the polls. Doing farm work as a younger man, that usually meant me when I was old enough to vote.

The greatest power the people have is the power of the vote, why so many people fail to use it today just blows my mind.

Common sense and my biblical worldview shaped my beliefs. 20’s-early 30’s were when I started really considering politics
