I believe mine is the Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking and murdering of Leon Klinghofer.

That one where Steven Seagal and Kurt Russell used the modified stealth fighter to secretly board the hijacked 747 through the baggage compartment.

The 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings that were carried out by al-Qaeda on August 7, 1998, against United States embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

I remember being in 7th grade and having to summarize news articles on the embassy bombings for a social studies project.

The Lebanon attack. If that happened now, Beirut would be turned to glass.

First that came to mind was the USS Cole (Oct, 2000) and the first WTC bombing (1993).

I remember the sick joke that PLO stood for “Push Leon Over.” If I recall, they pushed him overboard

I remember that one. That was probably my first recollection too. I was just a kid but I remember it being huge news.

250 marines killed by a terrorist.

Side note, it really is incredible just how long we have been fricking around in the Middle East.

What's really incredible is how long things have been fricked up around the Middle East, which isn't surprising, because name a time that they've been stable without an occupying force.

Probably PAN AM 103. At least the first one I can remember where I could understand what was all going on behind it.

Definitely MUNICH OLYMPICS as a wee lad. I certainly didn't understand the politics behind it though-was too busy with my Big Wheel but I remember it being HUGE news that all the adults were discussing.

I remember the Iran hostage situation but beyond that the Beirut barracks attack was the earliest pure terrorist type act I remember. Excluding things like hijackings, which were very common in the 70s, of course.
