Conservatives want to help the individual and libs want to help the masses, that's the major divide

It is not a single issue, but rather a different view about the role of government in daily life.

I would analogize the Dem view of the role of government as being like an over-protective parent, providing for all of the needs AND desires of the spoiled kids.

I would analogize the GOP view as being like a crotchety grandparent who wants his progeny to take care of themselves and to live life much as HIS grandparents did.

Whether or not stealing other people's money to pay for the failures of others is moral.

Some may even describe it as stealing other peoples' money to buy future votes.

the role of government

what is government supposed to be doing for the people?

that's the biggest difference from Left wing and Right wing politics.

Bernie says it's a right to have HC insurance and free college tuition.

Well republicans agree that costs are too high but no way do we believe government should be in control of either of these as a service and tax on the people.

You sure about that?

That’s true with progressive versus conservative, but not necessarily D vs R

Just how many pages do you want this thread to be? It's nearly everything in life you can think of.

Hoping for a trickle down from billionaires has shown is not a viable strategy. The economy is set up for the rich and to make life easier for them. If you're a millionaire it's way easier to get that 2nd million. If you're on the bottom it's incredibly difficult to dig out of that hole. Instead of taking a pay cut and slightly hurting their fortune, they'd rather fire people to keep their bonus. Having these rich people essentially sit on their money and keep increasing their value is like a parasite on America.

Identity.

Republicans generally identify as white, Christian Americans.

Democrats generally identify as multi-cultural citizens of the world.

Believing government enforced wealth redistribution is the key to solving the country's problems, then claiming the moral high ground when someone disagrees.
