Is this guy a fricking criminal justice blowhard right winger? Is he about to waste more money on this?
From April 2016:
Caucus member Jeff Sessions (R.-Al.) spoke of the need to foster ”knowledge that this drug is dangerous, you cannot play with it, it is not funny, it’s not something to laugh about… and to send that message with clarity that good people don’t smoke marijuana.”

Trump has said many times that marijuana is a states' decision. I don't think he would change his stance on that, as it wouldn't be a popular decision.

Ugh that quote is gross

You are making exactly the same mistake that ideologues on the Right (never Trumpers) and ideologues on the Left have made in regards to Trumps goals here. This is not an ideological moment.Trump was not put in office by the American people to please either the Puffington Host or Reason. There is not going to be any great movement to expand civil forfeiture. EVERYBODY is wrong about something. Including Jeff Sessions. He's probably wrong about a lot, but right about a whole lot more. And this won't be about the AG's ideology, this will be about CLEANING UP THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT and enforcing the laws of this great country. The priorities, which will be set by his boss. It's a big tent Josh, there is going to be disagreement. Don't set your hair on fire before the weighty battles begin.

No he isn't. He will take his marching order from Trump. I do not smoke but I sure as hell respect the right of others to do so. I am pro weed but we have no idea what they will do with it yet.

Anyone who things waging a war on a product that is perfectly legal in several states is an idiot. There is no way for the fed gov to win this battle, they couldn't even win when it was illegal in every state.

Well if the media starts believing this shite is right wing then maybe they will rail against it and away some people towards small government?
my primary saving grace of a Trump presidency is the ability to watch progs melt watching government expand b/c it's not "their guy" in power. you celebrated and promoted giving the position that power, bruvs
watching the right celebrate the expansion is pretty scary, esp after all the bitching they did about Obama
but, just like how SJWs lie to themselves, they think they're "right", so it's OK this time

Exactly. We have had 8 years of lawlessness. It's time to prosecute what's on the books

ts illegal federally and he can go in to the states where it's legal and shut it down. Christie I know wants to do that.

He forces the issue of marijuana-states rights to the Supreme Court sooner rather than later and we get a definite ruling on the issue.
i don't even know what teh court would decide?
we have dual sovereigns in the US
and post-Wickard, the fedgov has the power to enact drug laws via the Commerce Clause
what is the issue/question?

We'll see how much of a "States Rights" conservative he is here shortly.
i believe that states rights conservatives don't actually exist. They just want an exception to federal issues they don't like.
jeff sessions is a horrible person IMHO and will be a shitty AG. I give him 2 years.

from where it stands now? i'll take that bet

my first comment on him this morning was that within 6 months i bet i'd be saying "frick Jeff Sessions"
when his stances on CAF came out, i didn't need anything else
then this thread was made. it's a simple continuation of the same bullshite
nominating Jeff Sessions has no real positive (given potential replacement options) and a ton of negatives. it's stupid politically and in terms of optics. this is a bad, bad pick all around and if Trump is only giving it to him for loyalty, that is a bad sign for the Trump campaign (kind of in opposition to his selling points during the campaign)

Just another old white man, Trump screwed the pooch on this one. Should be an interesting confirmation process.
*Mike Flynn is a home run IMO

You are pretty much right. Most people use state's rights as the fallback whenever they lose a federal battle.
If the SCOTUS had upheld a federal ban on gay marriage and abortion, most here would find ways to justify it.
