Before my wife came here from China, I hung out with a bunch of Chinese visiting scholars that attended the university near me and had several as room mates after my divorce. If I remember correctly, the have a remembrance day on 11/11 I had read about Nanjing in WWII before, but they post some photos from the time on WeChat. I will never forget the photo of the woman that had been raped, her hips broken and she is sitting on the ground with her legs twisted behind her and her belly has been cut open with her guts spilled. She was still alive, just sitting there waiting for death. We should have used more nukes.

They became a better people and a better civilization after WW2. American influence and helping them to change and rebuild after Hiroshima and Nagasaki was one of the few things we've gotten right in the last 75 years. Quality Japanese steel is still some of the best on Earth.
I've always appreciated their customs and culture and always admired the Japanese. They are a very proud and strong people, and their value of honor is admirable. But there is no doubt that they have a history of some unspeakable barbarism.
