Minnesota has been ultra liberal for as long as I can remember. It didn't start with Mondale. I remember very well Hubert Humphrey and his liberal politics. The people up there are, for the most part, just plain weird and different.

You are blaming a 150-year trend on events of the last decade?

Yep, look at the county by county election maps. Geographically, most of the state is red.

Minn., Illinois and Michigan are similar in that the rural folks are more conservative but they are outvoted by the the big cities. Louisiana would be a Dem state if New Orleans was the size of Chicago.

Voting for Mondale isn’t enough referencing. Better said that Reagan ran the table in votes except for one state, that state being Minnesota which voted for the poster boy of politicians who are clueless

I was just about to post the same. Reagan won every state 40 yrs ago except for one.

Minnesota
CA, WA, OR, NY, CT, MA, NJ, etc all voted for Reagan, But not MN.

I have never been to Minnesota....going to take a wild guess that it's a similar makeup to any other midwestern state in that the major city in the state (Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit) -- filled with total dumbarses -- and the rest of the state is fighting a battle to outvote that single city during every election cycle.

A caveat to that is the rural counties aren’t as deep red as the rest of rural America. If you look back at the 24 electoral map, Trump won with 60-70% of the vote in a lot of rural counties in swing states. In Minnesota, and Michigan, Wisconsin, Harris was much closer even in the most rural areas.

How Trump managed to win Wisconsin deserves its own discussion.

The locals were too drunk and drugged up to even know what was going on.

I traveled to Minneapolis a good bit over the years for work. You can still tell that it was once an amazing industrial town in an earlier era.

Now it’s a hell hole.
