The reality is that this shitshow brought to you by Donald J Trump co starring Alvin Bragg, Stephanie Clifford, Bob Costello, Michael Avenatti and Ron DeSantis. Was all designed as a fundraising campaign for Trump's Presidential bid.

Also don't forget special guest appearances by Jim Jordan, Ted Cruz and members of the Freedom caucus.

This whole thing was orchestrated to raise money and to get DeSantis to say something negative about Trump .

Then why bring up the retainer in reference to Cohen's payment to Stormy?

To define the payment as a retainer. To do the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you are saying he did. You are conflating your assumption (as reasonable as it may be) that Trump paid Cohen to reimburse him for the Stormy payment with Trump confirming that he paid Cohen for that.

quote:

Ignoring the tweets, I think almost every rational person believes Trump repaid Cohen for giving $130k to Stormy.

This thread...YOUR THREAD...is about these tweets . You think they are extremely meaningful. They really aren't. And, you are back to making assumptions that you can't prove and probably (like 99.9% probably) isn't even a crime.

Keep the faith.

The reimbursement was $130k

The allegations are they hid this 1:1 by making payments in other amounts over multiple transactions. That would the theoretical violation of the business records law.

Or, in another way, assuming the above statement is true about the multiple payments in different amounts, if you looked at the books of the corporation, you couldn't accurately account for the $130k reimbursement. It would be hidden and, theoretically, fraud.

That's just for the misdemeanor, which is likely tolled.

To get the felony requires more work, but the fact that Cohen was already convicted for a campaign finance violation means they could argue that crime has been established with the conviction. If they made this argument, any campaign finance violation by Trump (which has all but been dismissed) wouldn't matter.

Woof. If Bragg has any sense whatsoever, he will refrain from coming at Trump with something that flimsy. It would be a massive shitshow.

What do you think the chances are that SFP could explain this.

He's not indicting Trump to win at trial

Look at Kiwi's post. This is all for campaign funds, PR, hero status, etc. for everyone.

They are all lying

That's painfully obvious. Or should be; you still have people claiming that tweet doesn't indicate that she was paid.

Regardless of the lying and trashy behavior, it's a political witch hunt and the DA should be tarred and feathered. If prosecutors are above the law then we need an alternative method to influence their behavior.

Yes, to further obfuscate the whole situation.

Trump trying to hide the reimbursement behind a "retainer" doesn't argue against anything I have said.

Yep. Trump gets the middle class lady from Oklahoma to fork over a few hundred to his campaign or PAC. Bragg gets his Democratic bona fides and maybe runs for mayor of NYC one day.
Sean Hannity increases his ratings in front of a live studio audience. Jonathan Turley becomes relevant again, We get to listen to Joe Tacopina ( great guy, seriously) Meet Bob Costello. Numerous SuperPACs raise money on both left and right. CNN and MSNBC get a few more viewers to watch in the evening. Some NYPD members get overtime setting up barricades for the protest that was never going to happen

Good week....a lot of people made some money. If I left anyone out, feel free to add .

Im not sure Im buying the idea that Trump wanted this for fundraising. Maybe Im wrong. At best, he's leveraging the situation.

illegal) ? This part has been somewhat litigated and should not apply to Trump. All the statements/letters from 2018 were about this particular issue (campaign finance) and the feds did not prosecute.

I think the Feds couldn’t prosecute because of the constitution …so yeah- Cohen got punished but Trump couldn’t be punished

Cohen was paid long before and after whatever timeframe you are talking about.

Costello nuked this case.

You are embarrassing yourself but then again you are a lawyer so you may not be capable of it.
