Simply put, he was very successful.

Rush made them look like complete f*cking morons on a daily basis. And they never had a response because, as Rush used to say, they could never compete in the arena of ideas.
To be a liberal means that you were both morally and intellectually bankrupt. And Rush Limbaugh illustrated that every day on the radio.

That explanation is basically why I believe Rush and Trump were extremely similar in their intensity level. Each possess(ed) a very similar presence that made leftists feel very uneasy.

Pretty simple answer....Rush called the left out on their failed policies and brilliantly illustrated their hypocrisy, double speak, TDS, etc.

Rush was the possibly the most effective person at at calling the left what they really are. Makes perfect sense they would hate him so much

He was incredibly effective and he rallied the conservative troops like no other. The left tried to duplicate his influence with air America etc. and they failed miserably. It is sheer jealousy that they hate him so much because he was so gifted and had such a large audience that they never could compete with him.

I'd guess another big factor, maybe top 2 or 3 factor in terms of his influence and standing, was his tenure. Not even cliche to refer to him as an elder statesman. That staying power made folks regard him as a very serious force to be reckoned with. Plus, you just naturally gain esteem and superiority after being a grizzled veteran for that long.
Limbaugh versus the '85 Bears with TWO dikkas coaching da Bears....Limbaugh by 2 scores.

I’ve listened to Rush my whole life, and he is a complete piece of shite, but people being happy he died are just the scum of the Earth.

quote:He was a raging a-hole to large groups of people, especially in his earlier days when he was drugged up. You can't just celebrate people dying and suffering then expect everyone to respect you after you die. This guy though James Earl Ray should have gotten a medal. Can you defend that?

But I can understand people in minority and gay communities celebrating since he did the same to people in their community when they died or suffered.

There’s no actual citation for this quote. It’s attributed to him but has never been sourced.
In other words, it’s more apocryphal than the Gospel of Nicodemus.

Dumbed down the conservative conversation for 30+ years.

They despised him because he called them out as the “Drive by media” in his own words.

No, he didn’t.

Maybe not the main reason, but a lot of people loathe rush because they blindly buy into this caricature the media has made him into. Maybe they’ve heard some cleverly edited clip or something deliberately taken out of context. Most have never even listened to him.

At fear mongering, bigotry, and culture wars.
And obtaining phony prescriptions for Oxy. He was good at that, too.

Wait, so this gentleman spent 3 decades working closely with a virulent racist (like a cartoon-level racist)?
