Some of that is related to veterans benefits and I don't think we should touch that.
needs to absolutely be reworked.

The system has become a complete racket that has been figured out and being taken advantage of bigly

not that you'd know but each year the income level for maxing social security goes up 12-15k a year so in 2024 i maxed out my social security at 160k this year at 176k that means each year i'm paying more money in for the same benefit.

we're going to have to reintroduce the middle class back to the concept of paying income taxes something they no longer do.

in the 90's a family of 4 MFJ making 90k would pay about 14k in income tax today they pay nothing

don't worry about me kid, i maxed out my social security on june 1st.

Social security eats up 1.5 trillion a year. At some point we may need to look at means testing it or pushing retirement age back. No one wants to do this but fixing fiscal issues requires tough choices that no one wants to do.
So let me get this straight. People who have paid in hundreds of thousands of dollars and will receive no interest on that money should suck it up and not get hardly any of it back because they “make too much money.” All so we can pay people too lazy to work welfare, food stamps, etc AND if they make a small amount of money they not only pay no taxes but get a “refund” of taxes they didn’t pay because of child care credits. Yeah, frick off with that shite.

Medicaid could easily be fixed if we went back to paying for medical only. Problem is look around any town in America and all you see on every corner is behavior clinics, early intervention, speech and hearing clinics, head starts, etc etc. All paid by Medicaid!

First, and don't be offended, ANYONE who starts this conversation with SS is simply unfamiliar with the issue of debt.

We are currently ~$38 TRILLION in debt. What are SS contributions to that? SS contributions are ..... –$2Trillion. IOW, if SS were not in surplus, our debt would be $40T, not $38T.

quote:

Defense spending is 850 billion.
... and is slated to RISE!
Zero based accounting would be a painless and HUGE improvement.

quote:

Medical spending between Medicare and Medicaid is another 1.5 trillion or so.
... at least.
The system needs to return to a consumer basis. Currently the worst neurosurgeon and the best get paid IDENTICALLY by CMS, the worst hospital and the best get paid IDENTICALLY by CMS, etc., and the CMS reimbursements then set basis for private reimbursement.

quote:

Revenue...it's probably easier to fix the spending side than the revenue side but of course increased revenue helps. I don't see any way to get there without additional taxation or duties
Unfortunately ... that's TRUTH .... and the folks who will suffer most are the very ones who continually voted for it.

It's my money

No it isn't.

It's a tax just like any other tax that goes to pay entitlements for someone else. And then someone else's taxes will go to pay yours when you qualify for the entitlement.

It's no more "your money" than any other tax you pay that gets used to pay SNAP or Medicaid or Section 8 or anything else.

Until there is a balanced budget amendment .......well, you can forget about slowing and possibly reversing the debt spiral.

When the defense budget was around 750 billion the War Dept itself said there was 100 billion waste, which probably means it was 200 billion, and now the budget is 950 billion, there is a 200 billion there at least.

Medicare/caid, the frigging states are double dipping, hospital and clinics the same, and millions of illegals. Fix the fraud another 300 billion.

SS. Another 300 billion. Illegals, people with hangnails on perm disability thanks to the standards changed. The friggin autism scam is to collect from SS. And millions of illegals.

All the other bullshite programs like section 8, the ignorant earned income tax credit. The hundred agencies that should be shuttered. The billions in aid. Thats another 200 billion.

As a side note, the problem with SS, besides the fraud. It was never to be touched, but during Kennedy they ruled.......that doesnt mean the interest cant be touched. And they have taken it every year since LBJ got in office. That fricking Mt. Everest of interest was taken during gop and dems so now its "well we didnt know people would live longer" bullshite.

On the income side. Get rid of the IRS as it exists, a tax code that is bigger than 3 bibles is ignorant, and its meant to be so our kings can decide winners and losers. Get rid of it and have a national sales tax, or VAT tax. You would capture all those working private jobs, the millions of illegals. Capture probably close to another 2 trillion with little impact on the people currently paying income tax.

The problem is, dems scream, it would hurt the poor the most......then they put a fcking tax on power and gas which absolutely hurts the poor.

So there you go, another 3 trillion plus.

even VA disability

Exactly.
VA is $300 billion annually. Almost 1% of GDP.
It should be maybe a third of that.

Hundreds of thousands maybe over a million people collecting disability checks.

Guys blown up....of course give disability.

However, majority are bullshite like arthritis, etc

No. It would be based on net worth and not income. If someone is independently wealthy then they already won. They don't need to be drawing social security just because they're old.

I worked with a veteran that was receiving disability and it didn't appear that there was anything wrong with him. I'm sure there is a lot of abuse of the system.
