how are millions going to be w/o insurance?

You don’t understand what the budget dispute is about, do you? It’s about the elimination of ACA subsidies for the working poor to afford health insurance. The democrats want the subsidies to continue and republicans want them cut. The cut will push the cost of health insurance out of reach of millions of people. That is the republican goal here and they refuse to negotiate.

So go right ahead. Don’t look to democrats to bail you out.

It’s almost like… the Affordable Care Act didn’t actually make care more affordable. It just made other people pay for it for some people.

Maybe they can pay their fair share that liberals are always crying about. Do you think the rest of us want a quarter or more of our paychecks going towards health insurance?

The harder you work, the more you pay for people who made/make poor decisions, and you get screamed at by liberals who demand you pay even more while also telling you how privileged you are. It really needs to stop at some point. The middle class is being squeezed by both the rich and the poor.

Go to any hospital in southern cal, or texas, with women about to give birth and ask them "tienes seguro?" They dont but they are getting care for that brand new US citizen.

No one is refused health care in the US.

Shouldn’t really have much of an effect on govt services; way, way over staffed with slackers that do absolutely nothing.

Then do it!

Right wing posters are freaking out because they are getting everything they want.

Trump is threatening to do cruel stuff hoping that will motivate democrats to bail him out. They should absolutely not do that. If Trump wants to do cruel stuff to Americans, then do it. Be who you are.

That's exactly what it did. It's just a wealth redistribution program.

And it actually made care (and insurance, since those are two different things) less affordable.

The problem with the ACA subsidies is that there will always be a line just above which you're going to have people who can't afford it having to pay for themselves and other people. It's called the "Subsidy Cliff." You can move that line around, but you can't get rid of it.

Obviously the higher you move it, the more expensive it is and the fewer people are paying into it.

The ACA basically increased costs massively for productive taxpaying Americans so that those not contributing could have a free ride. And I don't just mean that the productive Americans paid for the poor American's insurance, I mean that the productive Americans paid for the poor American's insurance at a hugely artificially inflated rate, as well as their own.

It would have been so much cheaper for the government to simply have bought people who couldn't afford it a basic BC/BS policy. Taxpayers would have to have borne a much smaller burden, both in what they were forced to buy for someone else and their own premiums.

Instead, premiums rose 129% just between 2013 and 2017 and deductibles rose over 53% during the same period according to eHealth.

And that's just the average. Many plans got a lot more expensive than that, and the deductible situation got A LOT higher for some people.

I used to own a medical clinic. When I opened it in 2005 the average deductible for a BC/BS plan that we would see was around $350. By 2020 or so it was common for us to see deductibles of $3,000, $5,000, etc.

And this is why everyone should correct people when they say "health care," when what they mean is "health insurance." Politicians very deliberately conflated those two to try to erase the difference in the public's mind.

And they did so because it's really easy to make sure 100% of the public is covered by insurance. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything depending on the terms of the policy. If I have to kick in $7,000 a year before the insurance company pays anything, then really what I have is a catastrophic-only plan (and those were DIRT cheap before the ACA, which brings me back to, they could have just bought people who couldn't afford it one of those if that was considered good enough.)

In other words, just because you have "health insurance" that doesn't mean you can actually get "health care."

Not unless you have the $7,000 to pay the deductible. And if you fall just outside the Subsidy Cliff, you usually don't.

Boy.. I remember you drones throwing an absolute fit when the “”””””””affordable”””””””””” care act actually raised insurance premiums and deductibles for all people including the middle class and poor. Those marches in the streets, the furor, the knashing of teeth as health insurance was put out of reach for millions of people.

Oh… wait a minute!!

And why don’t you plainly and clearly articulate why it’s a bad thing for work requirements for able bodied Medicaid recipients? As much knashing of teeth you programmed drones are engaging in… this isn’t as extensive as Clinton’s welfare reforms. I don’t remember the left throwing an absolute fit then.. correct?
