yup to all of the above. worked our asses off since we were teenagers. had to learn responsibility fast. nobody was bailing us out. figure it out. no cellphones, computers, etc. parents had no way to track us. Everything done by written hand. had to use pay phones to call for a ride after the movies or skating rink. OR if a parent said they were picking you up at a said time you had best be there. if you said you were going to Billy's house and a parent called on the homeline you had best be there.
Gen X has a survival mentality. we were baptized by fire. and yes a huge no fricks given mentality also on certain issues. we had to learn life skills at an early age. had to mature fast. survival instincts is what we had. we fought on the streets, in school classrooms, hallways, etc. these pussies today are scared to fight in school for fear of being arrested. LOL.
communication was nil then compared to now. no life360 or cellphones to text or call. we ran the roads on our bikes until dark at times. had to develop responsibility and trust. if you fricked up parents would bust your arse.

Idk why Gen X think they have a monopoly on being latch key kids. Plenty of millennials were also latch key kids.
Probably because we were the first full generation to have both parents working and the name was coined during our childhood.
But yes, I know plenty of latchkey kids that were not Xers. My son, who is a millenial was one.
If you were one yourself, congrats. Studies show that you have an excellent chance of being mentally stable!
Or was that studies on teens who listened to 80's heavy metal....

LOL
The latchkey kids at my school all had parents running businesses, etc.
Many of them are now rich and still running those same businesses.
I love when idiots stereotype Gen X.
Oh, and PS: frick you and of course, we really don't give a frick what you think. I am happy I was born when I was and will die before your generations finish destroying everything good.

The original latchkey kids were children living during WW2. So the Gen-Xers aren't the first to do it, nor the last. Just that it was pretty much generation wide and lasted our entire childhoods in many cases.

do you all actually disagree that mothers should not work and should raise their children instead?

I am sure that we all agree that you are an idiot in this thread.
Aside from that, we can discuss things

Gen X is too busy transitioning their children and making sure their kids iPads are fully charged

You're a fricking moron.
quote:
These latchkey children, referred to as "day orphans" in the 1984 documentary, To Save Our Children to Save Our Schools, mainly came from middle or upper-class homes. The higher the educational attainment of the parents, the higher the likelihood the children of this time would be latchkey kids.[11][12]
That's a bingo

Pathetic Gen X Loser here. I'm absolutely worthless.
As a result, I propose that government stop taking Social Security taxes from me. You Boomers can keep what I've already paid in, but from this point on, let me keep the future dollars for myself.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Ok. But don’t take too long to order something or they’ll call the cops to run you off.
