I would say that since Reagan the officer corps in this country has become more rightwing. I have read studies where officers were surveyed and they do lean hard to the right. There is some anecdotal evidence the very conservative types are more attracted to the service academies and ROTC programs.
In all honesty on college campuses the ROTC folks were and are pretty conservative and there is evidence that the academies are attracting a type of student who is a right winger.

The officer corps in this country has moved to the right and this is very troubling.

Our officer corps should reflect the country as a whole

. I do believe that we are in danger in the future of a right-wing military takeover in this country.

I am serious. They should have been as enthusiastic for him as they were for Bush.

The reception to me was troubling.
Was to me too. Not for your reasons, but for the reasons they did it. A leader with no respect for the constitution they swore to uphold. A leader who has created a mess over seas that they very well may have to go clean up.
They, btw, swore to uphold the Constitution against foreign and domestic threats.

Threats are open to interpretation. Many conservatives like yourself interpret Obama's actions as unconstitutional. I do fear a military that comes to believe that a military takeover of our country because they feel that the elected leadership is violating the constitution.

As an American citizen I found the reception troubling. They should have enthusiastically applauded for their Commander in Chief. He is their supreme commander and was asking them and thanking them for serving their country. The officer corps in this country has moved to the right and this is very troubling. Our officer corps should reflect the country as a whole and not be a place for one or another political bent. I'm not going to give my old douchebag Battalion Commander a smile and break out my knee pads while giving a standing ovation either. What kind of reaction did you expect from the target audience after gutting personnel, its benefits, cost of living raises, retirement pay (which that little 1% cut which equals $120K to me), no new National Defense Strategy, no new Quadrennial Defense review, and lastly turning the military into this warrior/monk bullshite team america world police, so on and so forth?
Our Officer Corps reflects our society as a whole. As does the entire United States Armed Forces.
Put away your tinfoil hat.
ETA: The military liked (not loved) Bush because the majority of Service Members felt that he deeply cared about them.

Let's see... The logic here is so backwards from what the left thinks.
Bush put them in harms way and they should be MAD.. yet they never did this to them.

These trends started in the Bush administration. Republicans control the House and Congress has to pass the budget. I am just noting the difference in reception to Obama versus Bush which is troubling. Civilian control over the military is a core constitutional value in this country and the military should and must treat all Presidents with the same reception to show that they do swear by their oath.

You can rest easy. It would take something extremely drastic for the U.S. military to attempt to oust the civilian leadership, especially with military force. And if it did actually happen, it may be for good reason.
The U.S. military won't attempt a coup simply because of right vs. left political disagreements.

A military coup in this country seems more possible now and this is what makes it more troubling. The rightward bent of the officer corps is the biggest threat to our civil and constitutional rights.
The Founding Fathers had no problem with Revolution.

I'm totally serious Jbird, how do you do it? Your post history shows you start before 7 am posting and go past 10 pm. Every hour, every day like that. You must wake up and the first thing you do is post. And the last thing. This goes back to your first posts. Every hour awake, every day, every month, every year.

GTFO with that horseshite, troll. The only constitutional issue you've ever worried about is your own constipation.

You can have your political opinions and that's fine, but there was a time in this country when people, especially at a place like West Point, would give proper respect for the office. It's the correct and patriotic thing to do. But in today's society people are more concerned with their "side" or their views than they are their country and this thread is a prime example. It's embarrassing.
So in other words, if the President shoved his cock in your mouth, you response would be: Thank you Sir, please give me more....
Remember, it's all about respect...

I don't understand the problem here.
We don't like the President, nor should anyone expect us to. The majority of us don't respect the man.
However, at the same time, we DO respect the office. We go where we're told and do what we told; for the most part without question.
It's the same thing as the age-old "respect the rank, not the person", and we do it to perfection.
We don't like him, we don't respect him. So we don't stand, applause enthusiastically, or go outside of the normal customs and courtesies we are required to keep. We do respect the office. We do what we have to in order to do so, and we'll continue to do that to the best of our ability. No matter who is President.
