Well sleepy Joe and Harris said they’d decriminalize marijuana

Trump needs to at the very least say he would too, I know many don’t like to think so but cannabis laws are a big deal to a lot of people who find it to be utterly insane it’s still illegal and all the resources spent keeping it so.
Biden beat him to the punch but Trump does have an opportunity to spin to his advantage. Harris said they wouldn’t half step it but that’s exactly what she’s proposing.
She’s proposing decriminalization not legalization. Trump needs to call her out on this, say she’s doing political-speak but she is half stepping it, and that he'll fully legalize it at the federal level and allow states to do as they please. Or frick, just go in and do it now for gods sake and just cement the victory.
But if he comes out opposing this it’ll drive plenty of people away and towards the Biden camp who at least will be doing something about marijuana even if it is half steps.

“This is no time—from, I think, our collective perspective—this is no time for half-steppin’,” she added. “This is no time for incrementalism. We need to deal with the system, and there needs to be significant change in the design of the system so that we can support working people, so that we can fight for the dignity of people, so that we can make sure that all people have equal access to opportunity and to justice.”

This just isn’t an important issue either way
People who smoke dope don’t vote

To you. To many it is, not just potheads. There’s plenty of people that don’t smoke but actually happen to be true small government types that don’t want the government telling us what to do with our own bodies and are sick of the problems that cannabis being illegal causes not to mention the money wasted on it.

Make it legal and tax the shite out of it.

I tend to agree that it’s over rated as far as impact on elections, but it’s a worthy issue to address from a common sense, anti big government, state’s rights perspective. The republicans have been foolish on this one for a while and I don’t get why. On paper legalizing pot aligns fine with conservatism.

Come on, man!!!

It has already been essentially decriminalized for personal use throughout most of the country.

riiiight.....or have jobs or run companies or vote republican....
Here’s the problem you get into with stereotypes, people are individuals and typically dislike being lumped into groups because they don’t believe that however you grouped them is indicative of who they are. America was built on individualism and that is what has made it great.

Trump should just run the number of people she put in jail for it and ask why all the sudden her opinion “changed.” Also most people that would be heavily influenced by this probably already vote blue

This. The federal government under Trump has made no move to interfere with state decisions regarding weed. It is de facto legalized from a federal standpoint.

Yep. It may move people over from the Trump side and get people who weren’t even going to vote come out and pull the lever for Joe.
Trump could win the election right now if he just said starting tomorrow I’m removing it from being a scheduled drug. Or starting in 3 months it will be to give states time to make it illegal on the state level if they’re dumb enough to (so likely louisiana). But he’d win it, and he’ll he could even say I don’t agree with using it but I don’t agree with big government telling people what to do and that they can’t so I’m giving states and therefor people the option.
And right then and there he’d get four more years, but we all know he won’t.

It was pretty dumb of Trump not to decriminalize weed at the Federal level. It would have been politically transcendent. He could have even kicked it over to let the states decide and it still would have been a huge victory.

It will drive my wife away a little bit since she's a cannabis patient (she has had rheumatoid arthritis since she was 12) and this gives her obvious relief.
Pot is not my thing but I cannot understand why they don't legalize it completely. I know the Democrats won't legalize it until they can find a way to make money from it.
But if Republicans would go all in on freedom (Like they're supposed to!), as DTG says, it would cement them in states like Colorado which should be a fricking red state anyways.

Yeah I know, he ain’t gonna be a leader on it but at the very least he has Joe&Harris that he now needs to counter. He can either do the smart thing and decriminalize or legalize it or he can do the dumb thing and say he’ll keep it illegal and maybe even start going after the states that did legalize it (I mean they’re just lib states so who cares). I’d say it’s 50/50 what he chooses.

The House should be bringing this up for a vote in the next two weeks. It’s time.
