Unknown soldier was listed with a duty status whereabouts unknown. Could be up to 10 days before name is released.

Unnamed soldier:
The third soldier, whose name has not been released at the family’s request, is also listed as duty status whereabouts unknown (DUSTWUN).
quote:
Duty status whereabouts unknown (DUSTWUN) is a temporary casualty status given to a member of the United States military who is believed to be missing but not confirmed dead or captured.
quote:
A commander will assign DUSTWUN status if they suspect a service member is missing but there's not enough evidence to confirm their status.
This status can apply to service members who are presumed lost at sea or missing ashore.
DUSTWUN status is typically given for no more than 10 days.

My guess is we aren’t and the family simply said “no, you can’t release it early.”
Fox News reported the family requested this and out of respect the media is not releasing his name.

The name of the pilot is public record.
Media should do a FOIA request.
I’m sorry, if your actions kill 60+ civilians, your name must be released. The army may honor their request for now, but given it’s a public record, I don’t know that they can avoid a FOIA request.

Media should do a FOIA request.
quote:
How are Soldiers' names released to the media? Can family members have a Soldier's name withheld from the media? Once required Next Of Kin (NOK) notifications have been completed, the Army Human Resources Command Public Affairs Office will release the information to the Army's Office of Chief of Public Affairs (OCPA) (703-697-7550). OCPA releases to Office of Secretary of Defense Public Affairs and the media. Although families may request their Soldier's name be withheld, it is a matter of public record and may be released without their permission.

FOIA is a joke, but the name will come out. Just not right this second.

We're over the 24...the Army decided to make an exception today which is insane. Does nothing but feed all the conspiracy theories.
Gotcha. I agree it feeds the monster, but I don’t have an issue with it if it turns out there’s good reason.
Yes, the public 100% has a right to know, but nobody has to know right f’n now if there’s good reason to hold off.
What’s important is the appropriate people know. I’ll consider the general public in that group after a few days.
ETA: if DUSTWUN status is a 10-day window, then it sounds like the family is holding firm and when the body is recovered, DUSTWUN will be changed and the name will be released. That could be in 9 minutes or 9 days.

100% -1
All 64 plane passengers and crew, 2 of 3 Blackhawk crew. With pictures. Adults and Children.
There is zero reason not to release the last name.

Or her name, not sure that it matters at this point unless their identity remains hidden for a significant amount of time.

I think I just heard Steve bannon say the army was refusing to release the name of the pilot.
Posted on 1/31/25 at 4:14 pm to Narax
guessing that pilot was undergoing remedial training for some ugly deficiencies that the army mis-managed

We have been through this before, when shooters names finally get releases their social media history is burned with fire.

its almost certainly a woman of colour bc no one else would be treated with such kid gloves

The ONLY reason the third name is being withheld is because it is going to make the pilot and/or the Army look bad. They want it to disappear from public interest and then announce it when interest dies down. But delaying will only bring more attention to it and further speculation about what they’re hiding.

His/her name will be in the NTSB report.

I really doubt she’s British.

No it will not. The NTSB does not list the names of those killed or injured in their Prelim or Final reports. That information is released by other agencies.

This has to be released ASAP. Remember this administration is supposed to be "transparent"?
