Agreed if by separate ways we mean separate the head from the body, Marie Antoinette some of the politicians and see how quickly the country recovers.

This idea was fairly practical in 1860
How could it work now? We're not separated by regions.
It's essentially big cities vs non-cities

If they don't leave on their own...
In every political reorganization of nations in history, the losing minority either has to learn to live with the new reality, or pack their bags. Canada is filled with the descendants of loyalists from the American Colonies that fled after Britain lost the Revolutionary War. It was probably the best thing for them AND us.

No, the question is how do we maintain the present trajectory without the continued gross abrogation of our Natural Rights? The simple answer is it is impossible to reconcile the current political framework with continued Liberty.
We all see where this is heading and it is not going to be a happy ending. Yet it need not end that way.
If Liberty is to continue in this nation, it will come through nullification, subsidiary and secession movements. Peaceful, mutually agreed upon political separation of some degree is a rational solution to the ongoing crisis.
Alabamians can agree to let Californians be Californians and Californians can in turn agree to let Alabamians be Alabamians. Yet that also in effect means the end of Washington D.C. as the ruling center of power in our lives.
So which will it be? Continued Empire or Freedom?

I've posted several times on the subject. Adopting the free city model for the big ones like Chicago and NYC is very practical and both sides can jump on it.
