It's actually fairly straightforward. We become ungovernable, demanding more and more from the ruling elites so that eventually we are just taking what we want from them while they race to satisfy our appetite.
There is precedent for this.

I read a fiction novel recently about a breakup of the US. The breakup pretty much happened because of exactly what the Dems are proposing right now. Packing the Supreme Court, giving citizenship to illegals to win all elections, etc.
There was some violence but all of the southern states and many of the midwestern states decides to go red, and the left and right coasts and northeast went blue.
The blue states were basically complete welfare states, where everyone was equally poor, except for the ruling class. Electrical generation was sporadic at best because they only used green power, and gasoline was almost impossible to get or afford (except for the ruling class).
The Red States instituted conservative policies that only gave welfare to those who were disabled, and you had to serve in the military or reserve for two years if you were aged 18 through like 60 or something, or you could not be a citizen and vote. The Red States used coal, natural gas, and nuclear power for electrical generation, and the oil states kept them energy independent.
So basically, the Blue States turned into a Communist shithole like every Communist shithole has ever done, and the Red States thrived because of common sense legislation and policies.
