noting the one-two punch of coronavirus and flu season has pushed hospitals nearly to their limits.

How many people, nationwide, have been admitted to hospital for Corona so far?

No one knows for sure because we haven't tested nearly enough people to determine the answer to that question. There are people on wards in hospitals all across the country waiting for the opportunity to be tested. Why have we not managed to complete this testing is a phenomenal question.

I was downvoted a bit back for suggesting our healthcare system could be overwhelmed.

You get downvoted because most here don't like you...If you don't even make a comment, you still get downvoted.

What's your best estimate? 2000? 3000?

Are these actually suspected cases by their doctors or are these "peace of mind" test requests?

I mean, the DHS Secretary said, today, that we've developed somewhat of an excess capacity, with 4 million expected by this weekend.

Certainly you're not suggesting that millions of folks have been identified by providers as potentially having COVID19 and not getting tests done? Or are you suggesting that?

Because either the Task Force briefings are outright lies or there is some other disconnect between the swabs and test results coming back to the provider. If it is indeed the latter (which I suspect), then I'm all for fixing that disconnect.

Uh the trajectory of deaths has not increased since the nursing home bump in WA

But for 1 badly run nursing home, our death toll would barely crack a dozen right now.

Re-read what he wrote. He's talking about reaching 1% in any one area, not necessarily 1% across the country. Absent intervention, that could very much happen and right now we are not aggressively intervening.

Oh my! If only we had a way to transport overflow to some other facility with space!

Idiot.

You must be an administrator. All your postings on here are garbage comments indicative of no real world, on-the-floor experience.

Please take your fascinations somewhere else.

Alternatively, we can just do nothing because this is just the flu...

Who exactly is doing "nothing?" or even saying that we should be doing "nothing?"

By all means though, roll with an opinion of a form DHS official.

We had 257,000 hospitalized in '09 with H1N1 and somehow we got through that

BTW,where was ALL this hand- wringing and bluster back in '09 with 60,000,000 infected and 12,000+ deaths?

Nah, there's no way he's an administrator.

Maybe some low level accounting or payroll position.

He claims to be “a leader” of a Health System and says several MDs “work for him”.

You could set up an electric air compressor with a filter and breathing airline and regulator

Then you have to consider tidal volumes and flow rates...most require higher O2 percentages...could be done with some form of pressure regulator to prevent blowing a lung but it's far from ideal.

During the Korean war (maybe it was Vietnam) there was a machine that was very simple and could get the job done in a pinch. We used them as IPPB machines a lot of years ago.

you don't believe the CDC numbers concerning the number infected?

Nope. Sure don't. The actual number of infected is exponentially higher than what the CDC says. And yet, the country doesn't have people dying in the street.

About 61,000,000 less beds than the number of people who got H1N1 in the US and we managed to make it through that.

That may be true where you are, unfortunately that's administrator level garbage talk in my neck of the woods.

Sounds like part of the Leftist filth play book. Overwhelm the system and hope for chaos. Any way to get power is the best plan.

The second stage regulator(mouthpiece) supplies air on demand, when you gently pull to take a breath, the valve opens, as soon as there is back pressure, the valve closes, plus the pressure of air it provides is adjustable.
Yes, It's far from Ideal, but in a serious situation, I think you could make it work, especially if you used it in conjunction with an industrial type respirator. Remove the filter cans and hook the regulator up that way, so that the breather wouldn't need to hold the regulator with their teeth.
I have my diving rig set up like this: Honda 5 horse motor, runs an oiless compressor head, through a 1 way check valve into a beer keg (for volume storage 100psi, about 10 minutes of air if your compressor quits), tapped for pipe fittings, out into a homemade filter, then my airline, then my regulator.
If you aren't underwater and don't need the extra pressure, this rig can probably supply 4 people with slightly pressurized air.
You could pretty easily add more oxygen to the mix with a regulated bottle teed in on your compressor intake.
