Only 120,000 critical care beds in the entire country

And do you think people stop shooting each other and running into telephone poles because you have the fricking sniffles and a fever?

hey’ll absolutely stretch with a full-fledged outbreak. LTAC overflow could provide a 10%-20% increase in total capacity.

It would totally strain the system. It wouldn’t break the system, especially in a two-three month timeframe.

Even with another 10-20% will offer less than 300 total open ICU beds. That could go pretty quick since those beds won't turn quickly. His modest suggestion is that we plan for that contingency as opposed to doing nothing.

the divergence between what I hear in the briefings we get at my job and what people here seem to believe is fascinating to me.

It's not fascinating. It's an obvious reaction to the media being exposed for having a party line agenda, spreading misinformation and fake news whenever there's something in it for them (and there always is)

The media being exposed will go down as Trump's legacy. It's scary but we are at a point in time where you can't believe once credible sources and have to really take everything, reported everywhere, with a grain of salt.

On the flip side, the fascinating thing to me is how the actual fear and hysteria itself is spreading just like a virus. From an IT professional standpoint it's very interesting how fast fear and inaccuracies spread in this day and age and how it can have huge repercussions.

this isn't the second coming of Yellow Fever or the Plague or the Spanish Flu like the media is making it out to be.

The media didn't make the call of a worldwide health emergency. World health organization did. CDC is very concerned. These recommendations aren't some conspiracy you thought up in your head. I get it is frustrating to see gross inaccuracies in the media to paint our President in a certain light but, that shouldn't make you blow this thing off like it's nothing.

What's truly troubling is seeing this board think the "middle ground" is just brushing off the rate of infection and the repercussions that could result from it as nothing. It's okay to find humor in the situation but, when you get mad when people are trying to take this seriously to prevent a catastrophic economical/logistical situation from happening, you just look like an a-hole

Millions of people potentially getting sick around the same time is much worse for the economy than sending out the National guard to prevent the spread of said infection

You don’t have access to some gnostic secrets in your hospital meetings. Some people are predisposed to shite their pants. Others aren’t.

That's what so strange about it all. There is nothing secret at all or particularly controversial about anything I've written. Which is essentially that the pandemic virus that shut down the Louvre and Mecca and Disney World and Harvard and the entire country of Italy and tons of other stuff might have negative impact on our health system ability to provide care for patients given current capacity and we should probably test a bunch of people and make decisions from there.

But you guys are right, it's just big ole conspiracy...

Which was a purely political stunt which Serv-Pro could have handled far cheaper and more effectively given people will be allowed to move in and out of the "containment zone freely"...

LMAO, lap the shite up...

5% of the hospitalized? Or 5% overall?

The conspiracy part of it involves Wuhan and China's "dangerous pathogen research lab with over 1500 pathogens" in Wuhan created 2 years ago. I'm starting to be convinced China knowingly released this thing. Not sure the motive yet but it's alarming.

Well I agree with all of that. I think where your presentation falls apart is where you simply discount the capabilities of the Us health system versus the Italian and Chinese systems, specifically.

They told me the earth will incinerate me from global warming in 10 years, still I rise

Kids who can’t read an analog clock or find their way across town without an iPhone can tell you that we should expect 15%-20% mortality based on “research.” You have regular Joe Blows peppering medical abbreviations in their posts like they’ve ever said those words before in their lives.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again a hundred times. The internet has done for stupidity what the printing press did for Protestantism.
