Watch site Hodinkee just wrote a piece about the lack of diversity in the watchmaking industry.
It’s a ridiculous piece, but what bothers me, is that there’s no where you can go that isn’t infected by this social justice cancer now.
Everything in our society has become political. There are no escapes left.

Goodness. I could imagine a black kid who wanted to grow up to be a watch maker would get as much ridicule as a black kid who grew up to become a conservative.

Diversity = please include back people? Because I’m sure the racial make up of watch makers exactly reflects the area that watches are made.

Every time someone brings up watchmaker it reminds me of spending hours playing with a ball of mercury the size of a golf ball with my bare hands.
Did this throughout my childhood in the 60's. My grandfather was a watchmaker and for some reason mercury was part of watchmaking.
50+ yrs later zero side effects other than all my hair has fallen out.

It’s almost like demand for watches is down and fewer people wear watches anymore because they tell time with their cell phone.

I don't understand why watches still exist. I don't have a watch. The time is all around me. My wife has 10 watches but it's just to match her clothes like a bracelet.
