Tracks Fans, and Has a Communist Agenda!
Just in time for baseball season to start switching gears. I recently read "Ball Four", a book by a former MLB pitcher named Jim Bouton. It appears the more things change the more things stay the same.

Admitting to this should probably be a fireable offense on its own.

Ball Four is a really good book.

I bought it about a year ago, just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. It’s in my queue.

the Los Angeles Dodgers featured a drag group that was anti-Catholic during a Pride Night they hosted. The group, which calls itself “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” was criticized after wearing nun costumes and performing on a crucifix.

Makes sense. Christians are generally easy targets for those who hate Jesus Christ.

Good for you!
Unfortunately, millions of Americans do hate Jesus.
Hate is corrosive to the soul.

Great book! Back in the day that book took the lid off major sports "off hours" behaviors. We were always taught that professional athletes were the most dedicated public icons known to man.
North Dallas Forty was another one but it was fiction parodied after the Dallas Cowboys.

I read it as a 16 year old and it was good enough I reread it a few years ago.
I remember a bunch of MLB players were really mad at him for giving a down and dirty on the shite guys do on the road.

The amount of money in sports would not be near as high if the common man knew what was really going on.

Jim Bouton was also a great speaker. The first time I ever heard about Jim and met him was when he gave a speech at the Adhesives and Sealants Council (ASC). Apparently one of his college roommates became a chemist, maybe a PhD chemist, and was President of ASC. I didn't know he wrote a book, but he talked about perseverance and how his life resembles product development chemist at this conference. He talked about being a batting practice pitcher on his high school and college team. He wasn't good enough to be a starting pitcher but he had great control of his pitches. His job was to help the hitters on his team hit pitches they couldn't hit. This allowed him to have even greater command of his pitches. Then pitch what his opposing batters could not hit. He also talked about how he and a minor league teammate came up with the idea of a bubble gum that was shredded and put into a pouch like chewing tobacco which became known as "Big League Chew." I was very impressed with his speech and life stories that I told my dad about the guy I met at the ASC that created Big League Chew. When I said his name, my dad said he was a great pitcher and one of his favorite NY Yankee players. I was around 30 - 31 years old at the time and I am now 61 years old.
