For the people whom claim Israel is in the process of a genocide amongst the Palestinians.

We literally evaporated two cities with populations of over 100,000 with a small military presence.

Not only did this happen, but it’s celebrated by our country to this day.

This seems to interest me.

What say you?

The US didn't want to kill a large number of Japanese citizens with the intent of destroying the nation. So by that definition, no it was not an attempted genocide

It is largely thought that the bombs saved lives on both sides with what an invasion of Japan proper would have resulted in.

No.

The bombs killed about one-tenth of one percent of the population of Japan. Anyone who calls that "genocide" needs to get a dictionary.

No. It saved lives, both American AND Japanese. Then we rebuilt their country. If that's genocide, then we suck at it.

I say frick the Palestinians. When the threat is existential, who cares? If the Palestinians had Israel's military power, there would have been a genocide of the Israelis long ago, it's the mission statement of Hamas, which is the government for Gaza

No but it was very very cool.

We should have dropped a few more.

How many Japanese did it kill?
How many Japanese did it save (ignoring the millions of non-Japanese that it most assuredly saved)?

Math suggests that having the bombs and not dropping the bombs would have been genocidal.

This is the correct answer. Those bombs prevented D-Day 2.0 which would have seen tens or hundreds of thousands of American troops killed trying to force a surrender.

Us or them. I’m ok with them. They FAFO.

The Japanese massacred 10s of million of civilians from 1937 to 1945

They got off lucky.

Let's see:

quote:

gen·o·cide
/'jen??sid/
noun
the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.
"a campaign of genocide"

Nope. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were not examples of genocide as the purpose of bombing those cities was to force Japan to surrender. We had no intention of wiping out the Japanese people. In fact, the atomic bomb was viewed as an alternative method to full-scale invasion - an event which could have very well led to the destruction of the Japanese race and culture.

At the time they projected a lot more Japanese lives would have been lost had we invaded mainland Japan. Also I’m not aware of there being a celebration of those bombings other than some redneck bragging about it with some version of FAFO

Genocide? More like strategic. If it was genocidal we would have dropped a larger number of bombs and on bigger targets.

Go educate yourself on why we dropped the bomb before posting this stuff.

The Hiroshima bomb also killed some of our own POWs.

The atomic bombs are basically very big, very nasty bombs. We killed more people with conventional bombs in other cities.

It also wasn't particularly targeted at civilians. Under the accepted rules of war at the time, munitions workers were military targets, and per Truman's orders the target cities had to be cities with munitions factories.

Nobody with an IQ above room temperature, honestly believes this. They say this, because they hate Israel and it’s 2024, so honesty in any discussion is optional.
