Here he can be seen as a Marine Corps Chopper Drummer circa 1968. Very prestigious position in the corps tbh. 'Rah!

He said Vietnam times,
SO frickING WHAT?!? He was telling the interviewer he as scared of the boys and he's not easily frightened because he was in the Vietnam War (times). That was the impression he was trying to portray....he saw combat in Vietnam and those young boys scared him just as much as fighting in a war did.

No it's not.

My dad was in the Navy for that war but never made it to Vietnam.

Not once did he ever claim such a thing as Vietnam times vet.

You are going to hurt your back.

Whoops.

quote:

Phillips: They were there looking for trouble, looking for something. Everybody knows the right to life and (pro-choice), it's been like this and they're hateful to each other. And it's because I'm a veteran -- I'm a Vietnam veteran -- that these two groups even have the right in this country to have protests, to have conflicting opinions. If they were doing that, they should've done that there and then when they come into public, that wasn't the place for that. That was a public forum where we was at. We were still under the protection of our permit for the indigenous peoples rally.

quote:

Phillips: When I was there and I was standing there and I seen that group of people in front of me and I seen the angry faces and all of that, I realized I had put myself in a really dangerous situation. Here's a group of people who were angry at somebody else and I put myself in front of that, and all of a sudden, I'm the one whose all that anger and all that wanting to have the freedom to just rip me apart, that was scary. And I'm a Vietnam veteran and I know that mentality of "There's enough of us. We can do this."

Let's unpack Vietnam "Times" Vet? If you did not serve in the war, why not just say "veteran" ?

Yet you provided video proof that this isn't the case. Or else he could have just called himself a Vietnam vet. Dont you think a vet of that era sorry some pretty fricked up shite in his time from those that were over there?

But continue shitting on a vet man. We know that's why you are here.

Watch the video...the reporter didn't properly quote.

Fair enough, but he knows exactly what he's doing. He's asserting that he's a Vietnam vet for the points when he's never set foot inside the country. He keeps calling himself a "Vietnam times veteran" and about how that gives him some unseen strength to do the job that needs to be done" or something. And what about this quote, which DID come from his mouth.

quote:

Phillips continued, his voice breaking. “You know, I’m from Vietnam times. I’m what they call a recon ranger. That was my role. So I thank you for taking that point position for me.”

As a vet who spent 2004-05 in Iraq, this shite is unacceptable. From time to time I encounter douchebags trying to score some pussy or a discount by heavily playing that combat veteran card. A few pointed questions later you find out he spent his "war" years servicing HVAC units in Fort Polk. frick these guys.

Was he brave because of that? Was he more afraid of those boys than he was when he was in Vietnam 'times'??

Put context into why he mentioned Vietnam. He was trying to impress how scared he was of those kids.....and he knows what fear is because he was in Vietnam 'times.' bullshite. 100% stolen valor.

Seems like a scumbag move, no?

Maybe, he strikes me as a wreck of a human being that has been totally diminished by alcohol problems. I perceive this exchange with you as somehow you viewing me as "on his side" and "against the boys"...you would be severely mistaken, which is easily verifiable. I'm just pointing out that so far he doesn't appear to have lied, but the media has - lazily or on purpose. Truth.

I have literally NEVER heard anyone refer to themselves as this, ever...

All good old Nathan has to do is say "I did not serve in Vietnam" but he referred to "combat" in his interview... Just makes anyone with a half a brain go hmmm... so I can see why this is difficult for you...

Dude what are you talking about? This thread was started and dozens of people said that Phillips claimed he was a Vietnam war vet. Video proof shows they all lied and now they are all dropping like flies. I'm not going anywhere. Thos is incredible.

I'm sure the many veterans who served in Vietnam and lost friends, limbs, and years of their lives would take issue with this guy calling himself a "Vietnam Times" veteran.

He's had ample opportunity to correct the record by this point.

So who is lying here? The following all referred to him as a Vietnam Veteran: Elizabeth Warren, Andrew Gillum, CNN, Buzzfeed, Slate, BBC, Huffington Post, USA Today, Vogue, along with numerous others. Did they all happen to misunderstand Phillips? Or maybe Phillips is just a liar who got caught.
