If a Vietnam era vet wants to label himself that then that's fine. I certainly wouldn't call it stolen valor like most are doing.

Most certainly not. But I have seen those hats around before as well.

He didn't mention anything about vets returning from Vietnam.

He specifically referenced Vietnam right after he said how scared he was confronting the school boys. His reference to Vietnam was clearly an attempt to portray himself as a Vietnam War veteran who had been scared while fighting during the war. Thus his comparison to being afraid of the boys.

The obvious hole in your narrative is that he very easily could have called himself a Vietnam vet. But he chose to say he was a vet of that time. Why bother if he is trying to portray himself the way your are suggesting?

No you haven't.

You'll never see era or times on those hats because that's dumb.

It is dumb but I promise they will be around. And probably have a pizza stain ribbon on the front.

You know damn well claiming a theater in which you had no involvement is looked upon with extreme derision in the armed forces. Especially if you were a frickin' jarhead. I'm the first person to correct someone's misconceptions if they assume I deployed to Iraq, even though I served in the era.

You know damn well. Stop being duplicitous because you hate Trump or whatever. It's unbecoming. Shame on you, sir.

He could also have said "I didn't serve in Vietnam." But he didn't.

He could also have corrected the numerous news stories calling him a Vietnam vet. But he hasn't.

He could also have corrected news stories which say specifically he "fought" in Vietnam. But he hasn't.

Why did he mention Vietnam at all? What purpose did it have mentioning Vietnam and comparing Vietnam with his encounter with those boys?

You've embarrassed yourself in this thread.

Listen, let's cut the crap. Honestly, you and I both know Phillips has gone to pretty deep measures to deliberately insinuate that he is a Vietnam veteran. If you and I were sitting face-to-face having this discussion, you know you would admit it. Let's just be real about it.

I get it. You want to try and win an argument. But this is a bad look for you. There are causes worth defending but this is not one of them.

Yet the video clearly shows him saying hes a vet of the time. I'm not making anymore assumptions. Thats clear what he said and he is within his right to say that.

This is a quote from a Vogue interview with Phillips last year when they were reporting on his protesting the Dakota pipeline. It is clear Phillips is trying to give the impression he served in Vietnam without directly making the claim. Look at his careful choice of words.
