Vivek supports 59% as a minimum inheritance tax. Rich people "owe" everyone else.

You are being bamboozled by Vivek.
quote:

To confront multigenerational wealth, Ramaswamy embraces inheritance taxes as a way to “save meritocracy from degenerating into aristocracy.” Ramaswamy flirts with a suggestion by Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez to set the optimal inheritance tax rate in the United States at 59%. Lest you hope, as I did, that he might eventually walk that number back, he doubles down: “If anything, I’d take the figure Piketty and Saez arrive at as a minimum. We shouldn’t allow people to become billionaires just by having rich parents.”

To which I ask, why not? His answer: A very high inheritance tax is “a way of redistributing duty.” Those who become rich “owe it to everyone else to preserve meritocracy so others have the chance to do the same.”
Sounds pretty socialistic. So a successful person can't leave the fruits of his success to his heirs in such a way as he deems? Nah. Vivek is not the answer.

They were already taxed on it once, it’s theft to tax it again!

Vivek is working for Trump.

I also am in favor of steep inheritance taxes. And I am rich. We should minimize taxes on productive people who merit their earnings, and tax the shite out of undeserving people who get handed money.

Can someone define what’s considered rich? I need to know if I’m a target of Vivek’s inheritance tax.

Good to see people are investigating this clown. I’m shocked at how much support he’s gotten.

Ok so i am in favor of taxing you at 90% of your current wealth because well, just because I think you shouldnt be that “rich”. See how that works? And who defines “rich”?

I don't mind the concept of stunting the aristocracy, but this causes way too much collateral damage.

We should tax short term capital gains of elected officials at 100% while they are in office. That would be more targeted at least.

Or He could just call for making it 100% over 5 billion and see how many wealthy Democrats jump to the right of the estate tax issue.

He’s definitely in tune with what republicans want to hear, so he does well speaking at events and on podcast. It does seem like there is more and more stuff coming out on him that makes me question if he’s even a conservative tho.

The more I look into him and the claims being made about him, the more I realize that his contemplative stream of consciousness style is getting him in trouble more often than it being some radical change in principle. He speaks like a modern entrepreneur or CEO rather than a politician. But he's saying political things now so it is incongruous, which sounds "fake."
