Native Texan, but haven’t lived here in 10 years.

I used to shake my head when we lived in Houston and my in laws would come down from Detroit and go on and on about how much friendlier and happier people are in Texas (and the South, in general).

Now I get it. Makes me realize just how insidious it is to be around people who are so negative and timid all the time.

God blessed Texas.

I’ve seen Austin turn into a big pile of crap . The mayor and city council has allowed far left activists to take over the city . No way I could live in that Shathole.

My wife and I moved from the Tyler area up here to Lakeville, MN to be close to our daughter, her husband our 2 grandkids. Liberals all around and just plain stand-offish... We have heard the saying “Minnesota Nice”,,, but it’s actually “Minnesota Ice”...
Been trying to convert a few and have one gentleman down the street that tells me “You and your wife are the only friends we have in the neighborhood... Archie is 92 and just a great guy, so I just don’t get others in the neighborhood not being friendly !!!!

I assumed that people would be on the nicer side of the scale in MN, in general. I have never been.

I kind of understand that you have to be a bit dickish in congested, big cities (NYC, LAX, Chiraq, Boston), or else you get run over. Plus they have to deal with tourists everywhere all the fricking time.

When I moved to Houston from BR, I was very surprised at how nice most people were.

ETA: Not saying that BR people suck, just that I presumed that people in Houston would be more like "Big City" folks.

Recent events have started to show that it is less of a north/south divide, but an urban/rural divide. It's not all of the way there yet, but that's where we are heading.

From Texas and have been in Woodbury, Mn for close to 10 years.....THIS!

For anyone outside the state the saying goes.... they will point you to the grocery store but never invite you over for dinner.

Try holding a door open and letting someone go before you, anywhere outside of the south.

Isn't "Minnesota Nice" the name for their regional dialect up there? You telling me that's a misnomer?

It’s like the weather here. Looks good, but absolutely no warmth.

Plus, just generally not happy people.

Scandinavians are some of the most depressed, alcoholic, suicidal people in the world, and they brought it with them.

In general, they also live places which could freeze the balls off a brass monkey and have fricked up daylight schedules due to how north they are.
