This is why I support tearing down ALL Confederate traitor statues!! The Confederates were all Democrats, after all.

This sounds like a story that has two sides to it and we are only hearing one side.

This part is ridiculous:

quote:

The officers shouted conflicting orders at Nazario, telling him to put his hands out the window while also telling him to open the door and get out, the lawsuit says. At one point, Gutierrez told Nazario he was “fixin’ to ride the lightning,” a reference to the electric chair which was also a line from the movie “The Green Mile,” a film about a Black man facing execution.

I’ll bet a dozen glazed donuts that the cop said this with his taser out. This is a reference to The Hangover, not The Green Mile.

This. It is absolutely ridiculous to say this referenced the Green Mile. Any professional journalist (not activist) would be embarrassed to make that statement. But we know that is not the point to the article.

Officer should have just said if you do not comply I will employ my taser.

While I agree with most (not all) of your posts on this incident, this simply isn’t true. People get paid for bullshite all the time, especially in suits against the government because the money doesn’t come from the people who make the decision to settle.

2 screaming officers with guns drawn told him to place his hands out the window. He did.

The commands after that conflicted with the original command and would have him put his hands back into the vehicle out of plain sight. This would have allowed them to "justifiably shoot him"

He did the correct thing. You can pretend to not understand, but he verbalizes that he did not feel safe to even reach for his seatbelt to the officers. Which is understandable when you are being screamed at and held at gunpoint.

If the police had every right then he won't receive a dime and we will all find out once the civil suit is litigated. More than likely they will settle for a large amount because the officers were clearly wrong.

Get real!
Two police cars were pulled into that gas station at least 15 yards from the guy continually telling him to "step out of the car". The man did not comply! Only when it was obvious that the guy wasn't going to heed their command did they approach the driver's side of the car...and he STILL didn't comply.
You fricking people are truly amazing. You have no idea how dangerous it is to approach a suspicious vehicle under those conditions, and how quickly any mistake can prove to be fatal. Go work law enforcement for a while, then get back to us.

This is why officers are so on edge about people following commands.

Nobody cares

Edit - frick that guy, just do what the cops say and he is fine. They had the damn camera on the whole time. Cops can be and are often assholes but give me a break this was nothing.

then I read shite like this
I simply said that I was unfamiliar with the “ride the lightning” term. I certainly did NOT say that I associated the term with the electric chair.

I suggest you read more-closely before firing-off your responses.

So, I ran a search. The results were split about evenly between (1) execution by electrocution and (2) a Metallica song... about execution by electrocution.

No references AT ALL to tasers

My bad, I just read what you wrote, sorry you didn't understand you.

Officers being feloniously killed are a statistical anomaly. If police interactions are justified by those, then citizen interactions are justified by police bad actors.

Yes, that cop was very curteous and careful not to be offensive.

Maybe if all our boys in blue were a little more sensitive like this model officer we wouldn't have so many hurt feel feels.

I mean, we might not have any cops left but hey, social workers are specializing in sensitive de-escalating techniques so we're good

I love when people say this.
You're probably the same guy who doesn't obey "mask mandates" yet tell POC to "just comply".

What if the cop tells you to put on your mask?
Will you "just comply"?

So not only have you been pulled over “‘many times” but of those times, in many instances you were asked to step out of the car?

What do you do for a living? Bank robbery?
