Thought the exact same thing.

Kind of makes me wonder how he was promoted.

Higher up closeted homosexuals used to use his a-hole as a punching bag back during the "don't ask, don't tell" days.....evidently he must have been good at keeping the secret.

That means your SCO thought more highly of you than the majority of his staff primaries (Commanders are senior rater by the BDE CDR). It also was a significant risk, as his profile is maintained over his career, so that's three fewer MQs he can give as a Brigade Commander.

I was actually Senior Rated by the BDE CDR because I had previous command time. Which is why the Troop Commanders lost their damn minds.

Long story, but since I was a senior CPT, when I PCS'd I was sent to Brigade to be the BDE S6, but they got a MAJ in just after me. This Squadron was deploying, and it was an odd mission where we'd be supporting multiple units...so needed a very senior/experienced Signal Officer. I basically had the support requirements of a BDE S6 with the shop of a Squadron S6.

ETA: I was fortunate to have some seriously bad-arse NCOs and soldiers, some of the best I served with, which is why I didn't crash and burn.

Then that's a BDE Commander that gave absolutely no fricks and I hope he makes GO.

His name didn't happen to be McKean, Bontrager or Vitor did it?

Nah, not him. Although I know of his reputation.

Not gonna say because it would reveal a bit too much about me.

Good post Centinel. As an old timer enlisted I can relate to those bad-arse NCO's since our outfit had one, my boss. I can further tell you that you must have been a good man since that is why most NCO's and soldiers are bad arse. They make a choice to be because they are led.

I got out went to UA on the bill and when I became the boss I patterned at least some of my ways and choices on my first boss men. Thank you.

That's the Ranger Tab (Metal Replica) and would indicate he only went to Ranger School. There is also a CSIB which indicates combat service and it will be the actual bat scroll 1,2,3rd that you were in during combat. More than likely was never in the bat.

He looks like the typical nerd that used to get continuiusly wedgied in gym class.

In fact, I wonder if something like that isn't at the root of the problem for all of these misfits.

I'm pretty sure he fought in the invasion of Iraq and suffered injuries from a roadside bomb, for which he earned a purple heart...just checking out his wiki page, he earned the Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Parachutist Badge, as well as four Army Commendation Medals and two Defense Meritorious Service Medals.

From what I've read about the Ranger Tab, I don't think it's bestowed upon the weak among us.

At least when I was in it didn't take much but a pulse to make LTC. Getting a command slot is more difficult.

You ask those that have served in the bat and they will tell you he is "Ranger Qualified" not a Ranger. Ranger school is 61 days. Being in the bat is your daily life and duty and you are an "operator". Just RASP itself is 8 weeks of torture to get in the bat and to wear the beret and then you have to attend Ranger school within a year for your leadership designation. If you fail you are asked to leave and go to an airborne or straight leg infantry unit with no Ranger tab. Ranger school is not easy but he isn't a "Ranger". This is a running argument in the military and I tend to fall on the "Born in the Bat" side as I lived it. Probably partial I know.

Nah, not partial at all. Everyone I know understand there's a difference between being a Ranger, and being Ranger tabbed.
