NASCAR has been on a downward trajectory for 15 years now. I think they're desperate to try and market to a new fanbase that is never going to come.

A huge part of the problem with chasing a new fan base is doing so in a way that increases the decline of your existing fan base.
Look at the NBA. Chasing the Chinese fans causes them a huge amount of problems the last two years.

If I have to bet on who is right and on one hand is a bunch of huge corporations with the best market research money can buy, whose only decision making motivator is increased profits, and on the other hand, is a bunch of uneducated losers who have absolutely no experience running a huge corporation and are in the middle of a temper tantrum, I'm putting my money on the corporations.

Tell yourself that. A lot of people in positions within these organizations don’t have a track record of anything and are trying to convince management that the target markets they want will love this thing.
Or they are trying to convince management that NOT virtue signaling like this will open them up to attacks by SJWs and cost them a ton of money.

It's a combination of hiring left wing people (usually under the guise of diversity) and research based almost completely on social media trends - which in no way reflect reality.

The nice thing about corporatism is you have nowhere to go. The playing field is bought, the market is gamed. That can't last and you can see it slipping. Once China finished stealing the IP of all the idiot corps drooling over their population numbers and slave labor, I feel fairly certain they won't be marketing lingerie to the world with ugly lesbians and overweight models.
