Vancouver School Board Is Eliminating Honors Programs To Achieve 'Equity'

The Vancouver School Board in British Columbia, Canada, is eliminating honors courses as part of a push to foster inclusivity and equity in the classroom.
The board had previously eliminated the high school honors English program, and math and science will now get the ax as well.
"By phasing out these courses, all students will have access to an inclusive model of education, and all students will be able to participate in the curriculum fulsomely," said the school board in a statement, according to the CBC.
This is a spectacularly frank declaration: Education officials don't like that some higher-achieving students are sorted into environments where they are more likely to succeed than their less-gifted peers, and would prefer to keep everyone officially at the same level to the greatest extent possible. The plan closely mirrors California's recent efforts to discourage students who are proficient at math from taking calculus any earlier than their classmates; Canadian educators seem no less excited than their U.S. counterparts about naively pursuing equality of outcome at all costs.

Lol, Biden’s quote sure seems relevant.

When the end result is equal outcomes, nothing is off the table.

How does punishing achievers help other students?

It keeps everyone at the same level. That way those that do not achieve do not feel bad about those that do. There's literally no way for an advanced student to get further ahead of there's nowhere to go.

So just hold everyone back?

Equal outcomes are fine IF they’re achieved the right way.
Uplift the low achievers. Don’t bring everyone else down.

Socialism.... achieving equality by bringing everyone down to the same level rather then helping elevate......

I took honors classes to be challenged. Victims hate to be challenged. Victims hate seeing others succeed.
frick. This. Gay. Earth.

You know how I know that none of these bureaucrats have ever spent time actually teaching in a classroom?
Any teacher who has ever been on the "front lines" knows exactly what kind of train wreck this policy will result in.
My heart genuinely goes out to the students who want to push themselves harder and farther, but will literally have to sit there twiddling their thumbs while the teacher is forced to pander to the lowest common denominator.

Honestly if you are still sending your kids to public school you deserve what you get.

Best case scenario, it's like a small high school or a terribly underfunded one that simply can not have advanced classes and everyone is stuck in the same class...good students and bad. it holds back good students due to a lack of available challenging course work. There is no logical reason for this move in a school that has the means to provide advanced courses to those students that can excel other than envy by those who can not.

Want to know how to put an even bigger divide between rich people and non? Further encourage them to seek a private school setting.

That’s the dumbest thing in the history of education.

So CRT is being implemented in practice.
In St. Tammany, there is now a “diversity and equity“ committee.
Academic integrity is now racist.
