OK this is fantasy. The governor cannot direct the Virginia National Guard to act in a law enforcement manner unless a state of emergency is declared and cleared by POTUS.

Negative, the Governor is the CinC for state issues. Even a Guardsman's oath of enlistment if different than the Active Duty oath.

completely unprecedented in terms of how the National Guard has been used

Otherwise know as prelude to war.

Past instances involving cops and demonstrators have, apocryphally, shown that the crowds tend to calm down when the cop verbally warns the lead troublemaker that any shite-stirring that results in violence will result in them being the first target shot.

They don’t like that because they are used to having several bodies in front of them to take the brunt of any attack.

It going to take a lot of search warrants to verify all of the boating accidents.

The coast guard will be busy.

And Virginia's Constitution contains this little gem in it's Bill of Rights: Article I. Bill of Rights
Section 13. Militia; standing armies; military subordinate to civil power
That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

shite is building up to a conflict FAST

Thousands of cops, veterans, supporters pledge to join militia in Virginia to combat unconstitutional laws

quote:

“Our position is that Article I, Section 13, of the Constitution of Virginia reserves the right to ‘order’ militia to the localities. Therefore, counties, not the state, determine what types of arms may be carried in their territory and by whom. So, we are ‘ordering’ the militia by making sure everyone can own a weapon.”

Ive had this conversation with many friends.

If the confiscators come, they all agree that they have no choice but to go out in a blaze of glory.

Nah. Most would do as they’re told. That’s what soldiers do.
This is probably how it would go down with NG soldiers.

Get out of their vehicles unarmed, as to not escalate things. Ask the homeowner, “Sir, we’re conducting seizures of illegal firearms. If you state that you do not possess any illegal firearms, we’ll be on our way and never bother you again.”

At least that’s how it should go.
