Desert Storm was the impetus for the turnaround. There were units called up that never made it out of their mobilization station because they were so jacked up. After that a RA training cadre was assigned to each unit at the Bn level (at least for the guys I talked to) consisting of a field grade officer and a few SNCOs and they provided expertise and oversight. They regularly get sent through JRTC, JOTC when it was operational, NTC, etc. It was deserved in the past, but calling them weekend warriors and claiming they're not professionals these days is bullshite.

Fantastic synopsis, sir.

I'll also take this as another opportunity to apologize for my rant towards you earlier in this thread because I shot from the hip and didn't read the whole thread and didn't understand the context in which you were posting. I've not deleted them because I admit when I am wrong.

These measures are likely unconstitutional at a state level, we have our own second amendment.

I expect a hard push to enforce them though, before the courts get involved.

No where in your link does it say the governor is considering nationalizing the National Guard.

It says a Virginia state representative speculates the governor "may" have to nationalize the NG.

You are fake news........again.

How is this legal?

This is the least meaningful question in the thread.

When the government has decided it is within their discretion to remove constitutional rights by force, the question of legality is meaningless.

Dude, you're a dumbass. 5he Virginia Governor can TRY to trample on the Constitution all he wants, but the Courts will have the final say.

And you even giving this word "nationalize" credence shows your absolute ignorance.

A Governor does NOT HAVE THE ABILITY to "Nationalize" the National Guard. That is reserved for the Commander in Chief.

Try reading the whole thread.

As I said earlier, if shitstain governor blackface snivelcrat "MOBILIZES" the National Guard, then the President can simply "NATIONALIZE" them and forbid them to break the law and the Constitution.

No worries.

ETA And what he told me was just Army NG; I'm not sure if the Air Guard had the same issues or had to institute fixes. I'm also not sure about Reserve units and whether they had similar issues.

I hadn't realized prior to that that the NG is combat arms heavy as opposed to Army Reserve units. I think most it not all Army Reserve units are support functions, so if Big Green wants to plus up with shooters turn to the NG.

You can tell that people who propose this stupidity have no idea how actual military and police tactics work.

All a police department would have to do would be to set up a cordon around the local armory and motor pool the second the Governor attempted that and none of the guardsmen would be able to report for weapons draw.

Who would the Governor call in to stop it...the same NATIONAL GUARD who would be prevented from reaching their own armory or vehicles?

Too bad for these pansy Democrats it doesn't work that way.

Only the President can call the Guard to an active Component.

You might want to look at the oath of enlistment for the national guard. You will obey the orders of the President and the governor.

I really like it.

I don’t plan on building an AR anytime soon, but I’m going to buy one of the lowers anyway.

I find it hard to believe the national guard would comply.
