A governor cannot “nationalize” the national guard. That is reserved for the Commander in Chief. What will happen, if blackface traitor piece of shite scum governor of Virginia attempts to activate the guard his state for such a nefarious purpose, the President can then “nationalize” the guard, putting them under the purview of him and the pentagon. The President can than instruct the generals to issue an order forbidding them to attempt to break the constitution and the law by ordering them to stand down.

So you're a pretend officer compared to academy grads? They're the real professionals.

Plus, how many guardsmen would confiscate guns from themselves, friends and family. Won’t happen.

But Coonman told them to.

1) good luck getting Guardsmen to show up for that shite show.

2) It will absolutely end his political career as he gets recalled into another election.

3) Not gonna happen

I'm thinking if a moderate were to run for senate in Virginia they could take that seat. He or she would have to be a Collins though.

frick off a-hole. My brother was class of ‘80 at West Point and a fine RA Infantry Officer. I was a scholarship ROTC grad of LSU and was an RA Artillery Officer. We were both Regular Army. Some ROTC grads get RA Commissions as well. Your condescending pissant attitude is disgusting. Did you even serve?

I’ll admit I didn’t. If I did react out of context I apologize.

Imagine for a second that a republican governor called in the national guard to round up illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities.

Ive had this conversation with many friends.

If the confiscators come, they all agree that they have no choice but to go out in a blaze of glory.

Cold.

Dead.

Hands.

Of course people say this when asked. The problem is that very few have actually realized the reality of what that means. If push comes to shove you’ll suddenly see people more worried about disrupting their kids lives, worrying more about who would provide for their kids, and selfishly worrying more about their own goals, comfort, etc., than they are concerned about keeping their guns. Sure some will hide their guns and claim they were stolen or lost, but very few will actually take to the street to start killing those loyal to the government.

It’s sad but it’s the reality

Responding to both you and Limawhiskey:

I have a feeling Lima knows the answer to that question and he has a lot of in depth knowledge of Foreign Policy, National Security and Defense issues, and he has proven himself to have good in-depth knowledge of the Middle East. But I’ve digressed:

To answer the question on percentage of Army units that are good: the frontline warfighter combat arms units of the Army are very good, and their different specialties are amazing. You have heavy mechanized forces, a mountain division, an Airborne and Air Assault Division.... that’s a lot of on hand quickly deployable strength. They do have a lot of softer “ash and trash” kind of folks, but they are a huge organization.

Years ago, the National Guard was a complete joke of do nothings with no standards. Since all of the multiple deployments and such since 2003, that is no longer the case in many instances. Their are some fine Guard units out there.

Desert Storm was the impetus for the turnaround. There were units called up that never made it out of their mobilization station because they were so jacked up. After that a RA training cadre was assigned to each unit at the Bn level (at least for the guys I talked to) consisting of a field grade officer and a few SNCOs and they provided expertise and oversight. They regularly get sent through JRTC, JOTC when it was operational, NTC, etc. It was deserved in the past, but calling them weekend warriors and claiming they're not professionals these days is bullshite.

I'm here in northern Virginia and I can't believe he would even think about trying something like this. It may have grown more liberal here because of importing illegal immigrants, but even inside the beltway there are gun shops everywhere. It's the highest concentration of active duty troops in the country, there's no way there's not a huge push back against any action on guns.

I've been considering buying one myself but haven't gotten the motivation yet, I have to drive through Maryland and into DC every day so I wouldn't be able to keep it in my vehicle.

I know this is quibbling about the language used, but why would a state need to "nationalize" their own national guard for an issue within that state?

"Mobilize", maybe, is the word he was seeking here?
