Governor does not "nationalize" the Guard.

Typical dumbass Democrat.

Virginia, I would say it's time for a revolution.

How is this legal?

This is the least meaningful question in the thread.

When the government has decided it is within their discretion to remove constitutional rights by force, the question of legality is meaningless.

They won’t be able to. They will have to pick a side. If they refuse orders they will be court marshaled. If they participate in any minimal way they will still be shot at. They will be targeted. And many will go fight on the other side.

There will be no sitting it out.

Nationalizing the National guard shouldn't require a lot of effort

This is just the first step. Float an idea that everyone knows is ridiculous. The media and the left discuss it until the shock value wears off and the concept becomes normalized in political society. Eventually the idea becomes accepted as the prevailing political opinion.

Most junior soldiers don’t understand the concept of an unlawful order. And the senior enlisted and officers are too invested in their careers to go against the grain. Will some disobey? Sure. But most will simply salute and say yes sir.

No they wouldn’t. It’s a bunch of high school graduates. They will do what they are told.

This is happening in the state that produced Washington, Jefferson, Madison, RE Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

Unbelievable.

States that are trending blue take note. This may be your future.

Virginians are now forming WELL-ARMED militias to protect their 2A rights. An overwhelming number of Virginia counties just passed ordinances and resolutions designating their counties as 2A sanctuary areas- free from gun-control/confiscation efforts of their state democrat politicians. Sheriffs in these counties are threatening to deputize EVERY CITIZEN within their respective counties, conferring legal authority to use force in defense of their rights.

shite is about to get real in the Old Dominion.

These are weekend warriors we are talking about here. Not professional soldiers. Most of the officers have more lucrative professions on the side. The commanding officers of some of these NG battalions are likely doctors or prominent businessmen when they aren't on base playing soldier.

You would be surprised. Many of these guys take their National Guard careers very seriously. The guys who are doctors and lawyers get out fairly early because they get tired of guard commitments interfering with their real career.

So a filthy Democrat wants Martial Law to enforce his unconstitutional laws?

I hate to inform his America-hating arse, but most of the Guard is on our side.

Do you know what 60 million dead Democrats are? A good start.

Believe me...I know this. I am active duty military. I take my career very seriously, too. But I also swore an oath to the Constitution. Not to the government, or to the President, nor to my state governor. The Constitution.

I hear ya man. But you know as well as I that most guys are going to carry out their orders rather than throw it all away. They all have families to feed.

I mean it’s just an exercise in theory. VA isn’t going to use the national guard.

This is not entirely accurate. Until the President of the United States nationalizes those units, they fall under the purview of the individual governors. Legally speaking, the Virginia state government can indeed use the Virginia National Guard for the purposes of law and order.

Here's the rub...how many of them would actually agree to enforce what the Virginia state legislature is proposing? And with a Republican president in the White House, it's not beyond reason that he would nationalize Virginia's Guard units to prevent the governor from violating the Second Amendment rights of Virginians.

This is 100% correct. Legally, all Trump would have to do is Federalize them immediately. And it would end that UNLESS THE NG refuses that order.

But the mere fact that a 100% controlled DEM legislature is telling you they are willing to do it.....

I disagree.

Most people who join the military, whether that be active duty, National Guard, or the Reserves, are generally right of center. Most of the men and women I have served with in my 6 1/2 years have been ardent believers in the Second Amendment. I've gone to the gun range more times in the military than I have at any other point in my life. And that's after hours. I haven't fired a gun in an official capacity since I qualified with the 9mm and 12-gauge in boot camp.

If there is to be a Second Civil War that divides the military and the country, it will be over the Second Amendment.

The Virginia Guard should simply go to the state capitol and take over to restore constitutional rights of the citizens. An unlawful order would seemingly give them that nudge.

Plus, how many guardsmen would confiscate guns from themselves, friends and family. Won’t happen.
