Roosevelt was in Vietnam when it brought the cases aboard, and the Reagan has been docked for months at Yokohama, no?

China now appears to have a free hand in the Pacific - alarming news given heightened tensions between Beijing and Washington
If the Chinese navy gets out of line, that quarantine will last about 3 more nanoseconds.

As if the U.S. isn't going to detour another.

I was at sea roughly 70% of my time in the Navy (15 out of 20 months). Ports of call amounted to 4 weeks total...give or take. As such 14/20...70%. Maybe I was just stationed on pretty active ships.

what is your point??? What are the answers to your questions?

I don't recall China ever being without military capability.

World War 2 with Japan was last time we fought a trading partner.

I think in a true time of crisis both of those would set sail immediately

detour another.
faster to just get healthy replacements to those two carriers from non deployed flat tops...most of the non deployed ones are undergoing significant maintenance that's what they have done in the past when deployed carriers lost significant manpower

Too bad there are no soldiers on a carrier just squids and jar heads and not enough jar heads to even eat an entire box of crayons.

Fast attack subs are the real workhorses of the modern navy anyway. Surface combatants are basically just carrier defense systems and carriers are just extended land attack/power projection platforms.

If there’s any ships to be sunk, surveillance to be done, commandos to be transported, ports to be blocked, boomers to be tracked, anything that we think of in traditional naval vessel actions, it’s done by subs these days.

One fast attack sub is easily worth 3-5 destroyers. Their op tempo is significantly higher as well.

nuclear. submarines.

This brings a thought to mind: if you're on one of the boomers that goes underwater for six months at a time, do you actually get news from the outside world at all?

If you went down in, say, early January of 2020 and didn't come back until July 2020, holy shite that would be wild.
