Fox casually mentioned that they had been deployed to the Persian Gulf for over 200 days. Broke out the Google machine and got it to run the numbers for me:

quote:

It costs approximately $2.5 million per day to operate the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). This figure covers day-to-day operations, maintenance, food, and the embarked air wing, though it can climb to upwards of $8 million daily when factoring in the entire accompanying carrier strike group of destroyers and submarines.

I’m assuming the entire contingent is there. So, 200 x $8 million in an undeclared war in Iran.

Do you think the ship would just be mothballed if not there?

That's part of the budget anyways man. It's expensive to run them just like any ship in the Navy is relatively speaking.

I've always questioned the "cost" of war estimates. I know it definitely cost $ to replace expended munitions, but how much of the estimates you see are sunk costs that would be paid regardless. 50%? 75%?

It's not like the Lincoln was just gonna be parked in the driveway. Aircraft carriers get deployed, it's what they're for.

Everything is expensive, just keeping up with interest payments on the National Debt is just 3 billion a day, and going higher. A few million is like a grain of sand on a beach…

guess what jethrine it cost just as much per day if it's at port in san diego or new port virginia and since 63% of americans pay no income tax why do you care.

Let him melt. He’s probably the same one who posts about rising gas prices but not when they fall, or flyovers

You my friend, are a dumbass. I guess our military just sits around and does diddley squat. I was gonna say that I wish it were like that when I was in, but no, no I don’t. We weren’t pussies and have bleeding heart liberals ruining everything.

So you think if it wasn't in the Persian Gulf it would be $0 dollars per day? Gotcha.

During a standard deployment, a carrier typically anchors for a port call every 30 to 45 days so the crew can rest and resupply. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have largely paused those routine stops for the Abraham Lincoln crew.

So this board actually thinks that it is just as expensive to have a carrier wether its deployed or not in a war zone?

And President Trump has repeatedly attempted to get Iran to honor ceasefire agreements to end harrassment of tankers carrying oil through the Straits of Hormuz. They just keep attacking those tankers.

It's clear to me the purpose of Iran's constant breaking of the terms of their ceasefire agreements made with President Trump is to stall, to wait. They want to keep those oil prices high.

Now they have made a decisive move to reach out to Mamdani operatives with a meeting with Iranian operatives at the UN. We can only speculate what the purpose of that meeting but suffice to say it's definitely not a good omen.

I'll say it - all of this is part of the Islam War against America. Remember on 9/11 Islam declared war on America.

Yep, I agree it cost a lot of money to keep that USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier group in that region but Iran has continuously raised the stakes, we cannot let them get away with this.

We want cheaper oil - Islam wants America.

Bomb Iran back to the seventh century.

You obviously do not understand how the US Navy protects world trade.
