USPS has seen a 80% DECREASE in volume of mail
Source?
I guess we could ask Senator Rand Paul where he got his information?

Ask yourself one question: What is the percentage reflective of democratic votes for goooooooooooooberment employees?
Ask yourself another question. What was the demographics of those 190,000 new employees?

I haven’t seen a white person working the counter at the PO in a decade or so.

Express? That's the only "guarantee" service they have and it would be dumb for anyone to guarantee a time during peak holiday.

There's much less mail because so much is digital nowadays but are there more addresses to deliver to now? Even if there's less mail, the drivers are still stopping at the same number of places just about every day, all other items held constant. Im not saying there's not waste at the USPS, just saying the metric presented isn't great by itself.

USPS is a welfare program that gives people money and a generous pension for being lazy pieces of shite.

I'd need to see the numbers showing this 80% decline in volume.
Letters are probably down quite a lot but packages are way up. At least they are in my area. (No Amazon delivery here)

90% of the mail I get goes right to the trash can.

I’d like to see that challenged in court, because I believe it could be successfully argued that it is not.

I can't believe it took 6 posts before someone made that comment!
But, yep, me too.

Definitely mismanaged. USPS picked up the contract to deliver Amazon and it’s hammered our small PO. And they’ve even told some of the drivers their hours are too long.
Ding ding! We have a winner.
Letter mail volume has decreased but parcel volume has gone way, way up. The contract with Amazon was touted as a great money maker for the USPS but it’s anything but that. Amazon will do their own deliver but the crap they deliver is small. All the big shite and heavy shite gets dumped on the post office. Christmas trees, mattresses, dog food, a toilet, a kitchen sink, book shelves, tool box for a pickup truck….those are just a few of the things I delivered in the past week. The Amazon folks are delivering SD cards, watches, drink coasters, etc.
Mail routes are counted based on actual mail volume and that’s what determines the length of the route. So if mail volume goes down the routes get “longer” but packages are just sort of an add on that isn’t really factored into a route. A true “8 hour” route now has dozens upon dozens of stops where you have to drop off that bigger shite. This takes extra time and often requires multiple trips back to the PO because it won’t all fit in a mail truck. Now you’re going over 8 hours, supervisors get surly when you do, and there isn’t any help to give extra work to. “Part time” carriers are hired to do this but they get beaten into the ground working 65-70 hours a week without benefits making less than what they could make at a gas station. Retention is very bad all over for those who apply when they do apply. We finally have help in oir office out after 20 months of posting multiple positions. We might not be working 6 days a week. Since we are now in “peak” season everyone has been working 7 days a week.
I’m lucky. I’m in a lower cost of living area and I’m in a good office. This job is much more satisfying and enjoyable than when I was a grant writer at a public university. I took a pay cut but it was worth it. Not having to deal with the crap that’s going on in higher Ed is a godsend.
The postal unions are arse. No one in my office is a member of any of them. Everyone in my office voted Trump. Many postal union members I know also voted Trump. Other union members I know are completely brain dead and oblivious to how crappy the unions are and voted accordingly.

Our local (rural) post office has a postmaster that is a woman of color and has far fewer years of service in USPS than the average postmaster. At least that’s what multiple USPS employees have told me about her. Without fail, every time I go in to get help with a lost or delayed package, which is at least a couple of times a month, I can hear her talking on her phone on a personal call. The other employees have to ask her to look the package up to get the latest info and she always sounds so irritated that someone dares to interrupt her important phone conversation.
