Maybe Trump is speaking straight and maybe not.
One of the issues here is that he has repeated said "scary" stuff about "wiping out civilization", "bombing like the world has never seen" and such statements, and has not done anything of the kind when it appeared that Iran called his bluff. Fantastical or hyperbolic threats don't have the same impact when the other party believes that you don't actually mean it.
My guess is that Iran will dare Trump to do it. That is their pattern so far.
What will we do then?

So the ceasefire took effect April 7th (subject to "the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz" per Trump, but whatever). Since then:

I think the point of what you just described is telling, not about Iran but your thoughts. Trump let’s them have a chance to save face, they obviously can’t except it because of their internal politics. It shows their middle ground players a chance to get involved, the world that can see his willingness to resolve and the strongmen that he is steadfast in committing to the task. Then there is the American weakness, the likes of you for instance, that think everything is black and white and white ain’t right.
