Probably peaked between 1945 and 1963
The 50's were probably the first peak until the Russians launched Sputnik ushering in the cold war starting an era of paranoia, and the start of the space race.
Reagan ended the cold war and made America feel good about itself after Vietnam shook our confidence and trust in the military from the '60's and '70's. Carter botched things up with the hostages, economy and boycotting the Olympics.

American need an enemy to collectively hate. Right now, the opposing political party is the enemy.

The music & entertainment culture of the 80's was legendary.
This is what I liked so much about those times. Hell, even the music for the movies (John Williams) was phenomenal.
Wasn't much a fan of Clinton, but I didn't care much about politics then, still don't. 80's definitely were better than the 90's IMO.

The decline started in the 90’s but US was at its peak and barely noticed because of the excitement of pagers & dial up internet.

These people are morons.
Not only was the debt not "exploded" Reagan had to fix the military that carter gutted, which in turn beat the Soviets.
If the current clowns were in power in the 80s they would have given aid to the USSR to prop them up.

Honest to God, I thought this was common knowledge (that America flew in drugs during Iran Contra).
GWU
The Intercept (Glen Greenwald)
PBS
While the PBS link doesn’t explicitly state the CIA ran drugs, it certainly states they turned a blind eye to their amigos doing so, in the name of freedom of course.

This is such revisionist bullshite.
Reagan exploded the debt and flew in crack to ruin the inner cities at the same time erupting the war on drugs.
Sounds like someone studied the liberal propaganda handbook hardcore...

From your link...

But in the weeks following publication, Webb's peers doubted the merit of the articles. Fellow journalists at the Washington Post, New York Times and Webb's own editor accused him of blowing a few truths up into a massive conspiracy.
Amongst Webb's fundamental problems was his implication that the CIA lit the crack cocaine fuse. It was conspiracy theory: a neat presentation of reality that simply didn't jibe with real life. Webb later agreed in an interview that there is no hard evidence that the CIA as an institution or any of its agent-employees carried out or profited from drug trafficking

I’ll admit that there is no “hard evidence”, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire. As someone who has researched, written, and lobbied about drug policy reform for a decade plus, I truly believe our govt profits from illegal drug trade (Afghanistan opium!!).
For further reading, and if you’re REALLY INTERESTED, I highly recommend “smoke and mirrors” by Dan Baum.

I've been talking about the 90s a lot with my 16 year old daughter. Showing her old pictures and my bbn high school yearbooks and the like.
I thought the world had gone to hell in a handbasket back then. Clearly I was young and completely ignorant because in hindsight the world made perfect sense in the early to mid 90s.
I wake up every day and look here on TD PT to see what crazy, unbelievable crap is happening today... and I realize that I hardly recognize America any more, even in my small, rural, old fashioned town.
It's messing with me lately, how wrong I was. I'd have enjoyed life much more back then if I had even the slightest clue how absolutely bizarre this nation would become. Been 25 years since I graduated HS, and in that 2.5 decades the America I grew up in has all but vanished.

I never cared for grunge music. 80s rock was much better. Grunge music is whine this and whine that. It was depressing and annoying. That gave birth to alternative rock which gave a feel good vibe and was a good ending to a lackluster decade in rock music. Then the genre fell off the cliff head first in the twenty first century.
The 90s was also the last good decade of country music and then it went to complete shite after.

We peaked in WWII, and ultimately, we'll see it as one of the things that destroyed us in the end.

Ever since Millenials and younger reached 18, it's been going to shiite.
Reality is that its grip on the world began to decline when it no longer produced enough oil to quash any Arab embargo, and was able to do so up to 1973 and fill all of Europe's needs for months at a time by ramping up oil production. 1973 was the first time an Arab Embargo had any impact to the world
Jimmah while president didn't help matters. What a dofuss

Current music environment is sorely lacking.
ETA: how could I forget the Allman Brothers.

True - I am disgusted by people who have the skills to operate a keyboard but don't have the intelligence to form a rational thought.
As you stated - the primary Reagan objective was to save our national security arsenal that had been left to rot under Carter.
BUT - for anything that is beneficial to the nation overall, the DEMOCRAT bastards always demand an equal amount to be wasted on their own private interests = payoffs to union bosses = more money wasted on "welfare" (aka bondage) projects = eroding the strength of the basic glue holding civilization together, the nuclear family.
DIMoRats always demand a bushel of $$$ for every penny needed for the basic security of the nation and protection of its constitutional form of government.
And sadly, the corruption is so widespread that many of the GOPe have joined right in with the looters of the national treasury - merely giving lip service to genuine conservative ideas in order to get elected, but folding their tent when making the right decision for the nation jeopardizes their standing in the widening swamp of the Federal Government.

When everyone in youth sports, started getting a trophy is when the US started going down hill. Lost the competitive edge to win.
