That is an insightful answer that seems to be an actual use of the statistics. Thank you for that.
the most pressing issue at the present time is that food aid is about to end until the government gets back to operation. The statistics by demographic have little to no usefulness in gauging the impact of the pause in benefits.
Some might use the demographic statistics to dismiss the impact based upon the percentages, such as "It doesn't matter. Afghans top the list and so it won't affect our political party." In any informed effort to gauge political risk, the raw numbers are infinitely more important.
But i do appreciate your response.

I agree that assimilating newcomers is reasonable focus. I also understand that if the goal is to reduce spending the 16 million represent far large potential savings.

I don't think of it that way- that seems rather crass, actually. If anything, this shutdown is giving all Americans a glimpse into what programs are being used, overused, misused or abused and should be eye-opening to all of us, regardless of skin color, country of origin or political persuasion.

No one said we shouldn't reduce gimmedat spending across the board.
Fixing what causes 16 million white recipients across the entirety of our country will be more difficult than figuring out what the problem is in a smaller, thickly grouped population. Both can and should be done.
A difference you miss, though, is that 16 million CITIZENS are different than any number or group of non citizens.

I agree that both should be done, but it is clear that even a tiny portion of the 16 million will have a far greater impact.
As for citizenship. You will be happy to know that "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" shortened the list of eligible populations for SNAP. It removed most non-citizens, including many refugees, from eligibility.
