Part of that is because China would ramp imports back up.

China is using its massive SRP as a shock absorber. They don't report levels and we don't know how low they are willing to go but when they quit using it prices are going to see a big jump unless the SoH is normalized before then.

Any attempt by the USA to build more Oil Refineries will be blocked by the US Federal Judiciary.

Bessent basically said yesterday they will set the stock market on fire before they let the yield get away from them
Bessent sounding more panicked by the day. The play to prop up the Yen was a massive tell.

It has nothing to do with me. Bessent's actions speak for themselves. But I understand why you want to turn into a personal attack instead of addressing the issue.

I think he is worried

Bessent is in a tough spot. Trump is all about pumping the stock market, but to do that, Bessent has to ignore the bond market and debt servicing costs.

You know Trump is in his ear about not burning people's 401Ks right before midterms, but the yield is not doing anyone any favors.

This guy praises Bessent for effectiveness in the short term, but says it's basically manipulation (yen, energy markets, etc.) that is running us into a brick wall.

Again, too much of a political football. Why would a company invest billions in US fuel manufacturing when they know before the project is completed a democratic administration might show up and shut the whole thing down, either directly or through policy changes that render it economically non-viable?

So, the problem isn't getting oil out of Hormuz like people are saying.

It's the decades of shitty regulations and the threat of democrats screwing everything up.

Globally, it's also Ukraine attacking refining in Russia.

But that Trump... If only he hadn't attacked Iran, then we could continue pretending it's not our shitty regulations causing most of the problems.

You realize he's just going along with the plan and he's powerless to do anything right? This isn't for this country and he's not actually in charge. He's not a president he's an Israeli errand boy

Basically, yes.

Im not directly in the refining industry, just kind of adjacent to it. I dont know all the gritty details of it all. While it isnt the only factor, the US and Europe have regulated ourselves into a position of weakness when it comes to energy production. When you subject yourself to regulations that don't apply to Africa/China/Russia/ME, your energy costs more to produce than theirs does. Everything trickles down from there. Its cheaper for us to buy oil from elsewhere and transport it here than it is to get it from here.

Now, thats not totally a bad thing. Better to rape their resources than our own, right? It is a major security problem though. We have a lot of refining capacity, but its all old and all largely incompatible with south american raw stocks.

If it were economically viable for us to have energy independence, we would have it.
