But yea, if the driver did do that, he's fricked. Protestors blocking roads is complete horseshite and should be charged, but if PD blocks a road, and you illegally get onto that road and do that, you're screwed.

These organized protests have a protest route. They secure permits and the police in turn block off intersections and divert traffic away from the protest route. If that route includes an interstate, the police block off the highway about a mile in front of the protest route to ensure the protest can enter the interstate.
So no, the protesters did not illegally block the highway in this case.
