Because of the dracoian rules put in place by the administrators and enthusiastically endorsed by the governors. This whole semester is becoming a sham.

A friend of mine went to Tuscaloosa this weekend and withdrew his daughter from school. Not so much due to the fact she might get sick, but because he....and she believe the school is ripping them off right now and using the Wuhan flu as cover. The students are not attending class, they are being forced to stay away from campus. The professors are halfheartedly attempting distance learning. Some of the classes are not even really classes at all on line. Just basically websites with assignments posted...not even pre made lectures.

At Tulane it is worse the school is stringently enforcing a 15 person maximum and if the kids go across the street to Audubon Park, NOPD is out breaking up any type of gathering that forms. No one is going to class....not that there are any in person classes to attend. The kids are very upset, and they are depressed.

This is authoritarian totalitarianism

Now is a ripe time for a college/university re-boot. Should we contact our state legislators?

That’s just lazy. Even if online, the professors can make live and interactive lectures. Zoom gives all the tools for this.

I hated that my daughter had her Sr. year of high school ruined. It sucks what she's going through as a college freshman.
At least she gets to attend in person for some of her classes.

Haha. I told my boy to go to campus every day whether his classes were in person or on line. He’s having a blast.

I would definitely be pushing community college for any new graduates.

Stop making such a big deal out of this. We just have to do this until we flatten the curve. Then it will all be over.

Promise.

I would guess 75% of classes can be done just as well online using current technology. The standard programs just hadn’t adopted it sooner as it is easier to charge big money with this assumption there was a need for brick and mortar university programs.

Big corporate jobs already heavily utilize the same tools used for successful online learning in their own everyday operations.

I've heard from some college students that what they are seeing is that colleges are getting students on campus to ensure they enact full tuition then closing the campus down under the auspices of Covid.

Take the money and run.

It's such a beautiful bait and switch....and even more fun when you blame the students for the switch.

I hope some heads will roll after all this.

A prison camp that you stay home and don't even go to?

The joke will be on the universities when they are exposed for how pointless 90% of it is.

House arrest is more like it. But in NOLA the cops are actively acting as kommisars in public

I live in Tuscaloosa. It’s like the Soviet Union around here right now.

The kids and their families are absolutely getting ripped off, and I would be withdrawing as well if I were them.

Good opportunity to make a 4.0 without much effort. The value is in the piece of paper not the education unfortunately. The real education will begin when the diploma helps her get the job she wants. I would advise her to take advantage.

The parents and students should immediately withdraw their kids and petition for full reimbursement. If not they should sue. You guys really should consider starting a recall of mee maw.
