Consolidation among defense contractors.
Woolsely or Perry said so in an interview.
In a way, Panetta was more qualified than Hegseth. As Chief of Staff, he had experience running large organizations. Didn't say he was great.

If we were a serious country we would have never allowed our chip manufacturing to leave the country and would be all in on drones. The flying type and the Terminator kind.
Instead of dumping money in USAID and funding other countries GDP, we could have put our stamp on the planet forever. Now people are realizing were still ahead, but not by much anymore.

Just a stupid, stupid premise for a story.
Exactly. OP should delete this absolutely retarded story

This may well be true but if I'm the top brass of the military I'm not going to show my best in a war games scenario. That gets saved for when it's the real thing
The problem with a tactical scenario like this is that it doesn't involve the other capabilities that the US military would likely deploy in a serious wartime environment.
What the US Navy deployed against the Iranian drones during the first few weeks of the war was something that they had absolutely no knowledge of.
Our platform based strategic capabilities have not even been close to having been fully utilized in the Iran conflict.

If you ain't f'ing up, you ain't learning anything. - Rodney Cathy, railroad contractor
It's no surprise they have the edge here; they have multiple years of drone combat experience on both offense and defense. This is a huge learning opportunity for our armed forces.

We need to get off our arses and pour resources into research, development, training and equipment for counter-UAS. We are employing systems overseas and we better be prepared to employ them back home to protect military installation high value targets and critical infrastructure.

People don't want to admit it, but the US got caught with our pants down when it came to the implementation and defense of small battlefield drones that we are now seing in both wars that are going on right now
No one knew how they would shape the battlefield until we got 2-3 years into the Ukraine war. I don't believe that is exclusively a US problem.
And a lot of these innovations you're seeing Ukraine supposedly come up with probably come from us, I would guess. Same thing when everyone is super shocked about Mossad's capabilities. Who do you think they work with?

We had similar problems at the start of WW2 - incompentency, arrogance, and outdated equipment caused us massive loses.
