The dems think they are untouchable and can do anything they want. Let’s see how they react to getting punched in the face. Can’t believe they have the brazenness to start shite with people who have the means to wreck shite. They get us into a conflict against a world power and not some goat frickers and I fear they don’t have the stomach to see it through

I don't know how this could have "fit the narrative" of anything. It was a rumor without corroboration and, correctly assessed by many of us as "highly unlikely" or words to that effect.

This is pretty tall talk. There is nearly a zero chance an O-9 or O-10 would be in Mariupol, but nothing at this level is actually zero.
But, it was, at a bare minimum, plausible. Benghazi wasn't that long ago and an Ambassador is equivalent to 4-Star General. Now, he was posted to Libya, but to be that exposed with that little security is the very definition of reckless (or worse).
Turns out it this was a silly (false) rumor that most of us suspected as such.

I'm highly skeptical of the rumor myself but surely you can't blame people for being wary of a media that showed footage from a gun range in Kentucky and claimed it was fighting in Syria?
The media has truly earned the distrust many have for them
