This is an idea only boomers believe. Because you were raised to never be wrong. Your parents were great, and you are less-than them. Boomers are the generation of narcissists. If you dont realize this, its probably because you are one of them.

Anybody have a whiz-bang successful approach to managing these millenials?

They've spent the first 20 odd years of their lives being told they are special, incapable of failure, and all winners.

Good luck.

Now? Good grief. Pointed out three recurring mistakes at a Thursday afternoon staff meeting. Saw those same mistakes Friday.

Sounds like they don’t respect you as a manager.

Maybe this observation would lead you to believe they have more leverage than you previously thought.

Come on bruh. I am a millennial myself and even i can admit that most millennials are childish, evil, weak minded pussies who were never told the word no growing up.

In which the Parents of these millennials are mostly at fault for horrible parenting.

I'd bite the bullet, and have my experienced staff to shadow the new hires, and train on-the-spot. You may be able to do this in shifts, so as not to completely lose production during that time. Also, another benefit you may receive would be to interview your veterans regarding their confidential opinion of the trainee's potential.

This^^^

Most businesses at don’t realize how important training and mentoring new employees into business sense.

Some businesses just give them tools and say work it on your own, and get mad at the results when it doesn’t meet their standards.

Of course training and mentoring costs time, money, and patience.

Also, a feeling of advancement helps along the way, some businesses don’t see the value in some employees and get them to the next level whether that is increased pay or newer positions.

Yes it does.

They are generally cookie dough soft and they have no idea how to do anything. Too many boys raised by their moms, total candy-asses.

Very much focused on how they feel about stuff, like you would expect a boy raised by a woman to be.

Too late, can't fix it, they either make it or they don't. I've quit worrying about it.

Dude, I got grown fricking men w grown children I can’t get off their phones. I don’t get it. I would say it’s a generational thing but these guys are just a few years younger than me.
Honest to god, I’ve threatened to no longer allow phones in the bathrooms at work. I get everyone needs to take a dump after breakfast and coffee, but 30-45 minutes?
These guys make $30-40/hr.

Agree 100%. However, once you find one of these kids that is willing to work….and doesn’t “demand” pay triple their worth….the rest is on you.

Hiring/selection process needs to improve.
Training process needs to improve.
You sound set in your ways and slightly grumpy about it. This swallowing of the ego, or seeking of a better way is what you need to do.

When I started managing others the hardest part was realizing that very few people think and work like I do.

And thing is, I'm still about 20% understaffed because we just can't find qualified applicants. So, I could fire these people, but then we would be completely hamstrung.

Been in the same boat... Running about a 50% rejection rate on new hires because they have no responsibility to just get to work...

The bad part is that these are $100K plus per yr jobs and they just dont understand that in order to get paid you have to do something.

Depends on the field you are in and if you have any say so over who is being hired. Do you have free reign to do as you please? You have options if you can call the shots.

Ha. My sister is in her mid-twenties and works in marketing. She was just bitching about how the people she manages are so emotionally fragile and half her job is to be their counselor.

If we trust the latest poll that shows +20% of Gen Z identifies as something other than heterosexual I can only imagine the level of general confusion that an employer has to deal with in today’s work environment…..no wonder these young adults are mistake prone, 20% are still struggling with simple sex/gender identity issues.

If the mistakes are recurring, maybe you should look at the processes that are causing the mistakes.

I knew a systems engineer who used to say. " All processes work, until they don't"

Is the mistake gumming up the works? Is it stopping the thing you are trying to accomplish from being accomplished?

The depending on the answer you start a" administrative action"
