Trump’s tariff revenue can make impact on national debt

President Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs are raking in unprecedented sums for the federal government—so much, in fact, that a top budget watchdog says the revenue rivals the impact of creating a brand-new payroll tax or slashing the entire military budget by nearly one-fifth. (These are rough estimates, to be sure, conveyed to communicate the magnitude of the tariffs, not precise contributions to the budget.) But can these massive cash flows, already topping tens of billions monthly, truly put a dent in America’s $37 trillion national debt? Actually, yes, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), which alternately calls the revenue being generated by the tariffs to be “meaningful” and “significant.” In theory, pouring $2.8 trillion from tariffs into the national coffers could markedly slow the growth of the federal debt. Congressional Budget Office figures and CRFB models suggest that, if kept permanent, Trump’s tariff regime could reduce the deficit by up to $2.8 trillion in the next decade.

~$2T+ is added yearly. Tariffs work, but not the fix. Got to reign in the war machine.

By the end of the year we will $38.7 trillion in national debt. Did that sentence really read, "truly put a dent in America's $37 trillion in national debt"?

Not going to happen. Not only does each congressman get one Israeli handler they get TWO MIC handlers. They have ZERO handlers that represent the people in their districts.

He's just repeating what y'all have said under biden for years. There is truth to it, the system is phony as is all of its participants.

It's hard to care when congress does not care.

Tariff revenue doesn't even offset the deficit increases from the big bastard bill.

They care about people who can't find jobs in our shitty economy post-college paying back their student loans.

America doesn’t have a Revenue problem, …. it has a Spending problem
I’m thankful that the immediate tariff revenues can stave off default …. but the Spending issue must be addressed yesterday

This article/study has already been posted a few times and each time it's overlooked that the OBBBA swamps any revenue that the tariffs bring. Not only that, of course they're bringing in revenue, they're a tax. You could write an article saying "Bernie Sanders' tax plan would bring in revenue and reduce the debt!" No shite, if you tax people, it's government revenue. That doesn't make it a good thing
