There's a conservative, pro-life argument for paid maternity (and paternity, for that matter) leave after having a baby. 4cubbies doesn't have the correct angle but we absolutely could push for better parental leave and be a better country for it. As it is, educated middle to upper-middle class families aren't having as many kids because it doesn't make financial sense to someone who thinks about it responsibly. Meanwhile the poors that are already on the government teat are pumping them out. Something's gotta give
