Trump's tariff economic policies reminds me of an old saying

Most people who support Trump understood he was serious about his tariff policies being used for leverage against foreign competitors who use trade protection policies agains the US. Most also supported his vision for bringing Industrial/manufacturing back to the US, resurrecting a robust industrial/manufacturing sector in the US economy was very important to Trump voters and some understood how difficult this endeavor would be.
Trump begins by implementing tariffs against products coming into the US and suddenly a lot of Trump supporters are getting weak knees.
This ^^^ reminds me of a couple of old sayings...
Everybody wants to get to heaven but nobody wants to die.
Everybody wants a drink of water but nobody wants to dig the well.
Said differently, most Americans want what Trump/MAGA want with regards to economic sovereignty and fiscal policy that reduces US debt but too many Americans do not want the pain and that comes with the transitional economic turmoil that is required to obtain long term economic sovereignty and fiscal sustainability.

The irony of course is that they are only helping Trump by reacting to the tariffs with such histrionics. If we all talking about them for what they are, a means to an end, other counties would be less likely to negotiate.

Country music corollary:
Everybody wants to be Hank Williams, but nobody wants to die.

Its a sign of our society today. Short attention spans, diminished critical thinking, and the need for immediate gratification. As if the previous 75 years can be reversed in a day!! Its sad.

I always use "People want the baby and not the labor pains"

And you think THIS is the mechanism for achieving that nirvana?

We've lived our entire lives inside an economic and propaganda bubble. Half the population is incapable of understanding what you just wrote, another 45% are too busy keeping their lives on track to pay close attention, and most of the rest are well compensated to maintain the illusion.

I have a hard time with the number of people who can't understand this^^^^

One of the dumbest things is that most of the same people crying have been telling us for years that our economy was a house of cards with our debt and needed a reset. Yet, when someone actually does it, they complain.
Most people just want to complain. They don't want things fixed because complaining gives them a false sense of purpose. They can tell themselves that things would be better if only everyone listened to them when the truth is that the most successful people don't waste their time on message boards.
